Problem is one of the islands were suppose to be returned to China after WW2. Even Taiwan claim the islands. The US were the author of the proposal where the island in dispute were to be returned to China in 1945. The US open this issue and if we are smart, leave it alone, otherwise who originated the proposal to return the island to China will be raised. That is why our forefathers urged nonentanglement, or atleast minimize it. Decisions of the past come back to haunt us. Remember if the Jews can claim lands of Judea and Samaria after being absent for 1700 years or more, I guess China can claim it after losing it to Japan in 1895. So how does the US resolve this? We accept claims over 1700 years ago but not promises made 67 years ago? Just like religious freedom. Condemn one nation for requiring Christian churches to register with gov vs ignoring gov that will arrest Christians for having a Bible or wearing a crucifix ala Saudi Arabia? When one talks out of both ends of their mouth, setting one standard for one nation and ignoring same standard for another nation, that is the quickest way to make an enemy. We been doing that to China since the Soviet Union fell. It is like DoD/Arms Industry need another boggie man to justify huge Defense Contracts. We had a chance to withdraw from the world and rebuild our Treasury and other needs, but we blew it in the 1990’s. Now we have angry China (1.3 billion) and angry Muslims (1.1 billion) against US with (350 million and broke).
No one wanted Israel so the Jews claimed it.
China has been laying claim to islands that are not theirs all over SE Asia. Why are these any different?
