BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) - A squad of U.S. troops despatched by helicopter across the Libyan desert to rescue besieged diplomats from Benghazi on Wednesday ran into a fierce overnight ambush that left a further two Americans dead, Libyan officials told Reuters.
Accounts of the mayhem at the U.S. consulate, where the ambassador and a fourth American died after a chaotic protest over a film insulting to Islam, remain patchy. But two Libyan officials, including the commander of a security force which escorted the U.S. rescuers, said a later assault on a supposedly safe refuge for the diplomats appeared professionally executed.
Miscommunication which understated the number of American survivors awaiting rescue - there were 37, nearly four times as many as the Libyan commander expected - also meant survivors and rescuers found themselves short of transport to escape this second battle, delaying an eventual dawn break for the airport.

Hang fire, this is a day-old story we have no information on. Were these the two marines dead at the embassy, or a further two marine now dead. Nothing on the wire yet. If it is a further two killed, was the chopper shot down? What happened?

A report said the location of the safe house and a list of Libyans who are helping America was taken from the consulate.
These are the two SEALs who were killed. I am guessing.

Then what’s the story. Were they ambushed attempting a rescue, or were they already at the embassy defending it?
I am guessing they were killed while allowing the consulate personnel escape. Too many bodies to move at once. Again, I am guessing. And I did not read the article.
Don’t believe anything a U.S. official says.

My take from reading a bunch of stories tonight is that they were in Libya on another assignment. They were sent in to extract the consulate officials who were under fire. They were ambushed. There were more bodies to move than they had expected. And they were not prepared for the number of combatants.
The two SEALs who were killed were among the best of the best. They saved those who could be saved. They gave their lives In the process.
Sending 50 Marines against an entire country is BS.

My impression...the Libyan attackers were conducting a fully planned operation, and anticipated every step the Americans would take. I’d take a strong guess that someone on inside of the top level of the Libyan gov’t had a hand in the planning of this.
Well, we already know Libyan authorities were complicit in the murders. Now they’ve suddenly come up with 4 suspects in custody. How convenient!
This was mentioned yesterday. There was confusion if the two troops were part of the 4 reported killed.

I may be senior citizen material, but I am yet to be drooling on myself and know this is a flat out lie. Sadly, knowing Dems, they’ll buy this propaganda.
High gas prices, islamic uprising, sacked embassies, a botched rescue mission with helicopters in the desert. I’d swear it’s the late seventies all over again.
I want to know how many of the ambushers were killed and/or wounded.
