I think they never implemented the hatch, but the side window opening is a good bit higher than the previous car. Between the HANS device and the new wraparound seats there is a lot less chance of spinal/neck injury. I guess they figure it’s OK to yank the driver out if they need to.

I can’t even consider BBQ on the grill this time of the year. Bears are on the prowl prior to hibernating. Had a big 300 pound black bear get onto the deck last night. Heard a thmp outside from when it threw the trash can over. Got to the door in time to see it get the lid off. The motion sensor light at the front door picked it up and illuminated everything. I pounded on the door from inside and yelled and it jumped onto the top of the deck railing and then took off. We don’t put any food or vegetable scraps in the trash can, just dig holes in the garden and compost them. I think this is a problem bear. I have hard cast Brenneke slugs in the 12ga in case it gets into the house.
This bear was at a neighbor’s house a few nights back. Apparently she does not lock the car doors because the bear managed to get 3 doors opened and made a mess of her car. She heard it and shined a flashlight at it and yelled to scare it off.
Can I leave the bear a note with the address where your BBQ will be held?
Mmmmmm... Bear, deep-pit roasted. Our dog has been gone to doggie heaven just over a week and we have had deer on the deck and 4 raccoons scavenging for bird seed in daylite...

A story related to our dog who went to doggy heaven just before last Thanksgiving. Sadie lived a long life and died at abot 15 yo. About a year before she died, she was really slowing down. The hip displaysia made it too hard for her to go downstairs to the basement to go out the doggie door to the fenced-in area of the back yard. She had to be let out the front door and then the gate off the deck to go in the front yard. She had to be let out late at night and then in the middle of the night. I would try to stay up late to let her out the first time of the night to reduce accidents. One night I dozed off and woke up and was going to take her out in a sleepy state. I opened the front door and saw what looked like Sadie outside the gate to the deck and sleeping on the first step on the walkway like Sadie always waited. I thoght I had forgotten Sadie was outside and opened the gate saying “sorry Sadie”, but it was really a big bear sleeping there! It jumped up growling about 2 feet away and it was perhaps more surprised than I was. I still wake up at night and think I need to take Sadie outside.
Lady Bender said the bear was back last night and left tracks in the wet pavement. Gotta go shopping one more time. Weather looks good at the track?
Do the bears hibernate in your area? We have about 6 weeks until they will hibernate here.
I’m barely with it today. Extremely smoky from the local fire but here’s a tip for your eyes and ears only - Jr had an engine change and will start at the back of the pack....
I didn’t want to broadcast that bit of information so I sent a message via pony express which you should get it early tomorrow afternoon. Off to Church early to set up for the BBQ. Conned both of my grandkids into coming and helping me
