Citizens United Poll Shows Akin leading in Missouri

A poll commissioned by Citizens United's political arm shows Todd Akin leading Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri.

The poll by the CU political victory fund and conducted by Wenzel Strategies, shows Akin ahead by almost 5 points. Mitt Romney leads President Obama by 20 points.

The only thing I see in the internals that looks odd is that it might over sample northwest Missouri and that Independents might be underrepresented.

The legitimate rape issue isn’t nearly as big as Rove and many of the hand-wringers want everyone to believe. Akin won the primary and Tinky Winky Rove won’t be able to fill it with some Mike Castle like candidate.

As I remember Bachmann went through the same thing (in 2008???) when she had a lot of her funding cut off. She fought through it and I think Akin can as well.

The Wenzel internals are reflective of the Missouri electorate, in contrast to Rasmussen that does not make public its internals.

It may just be me but I don’t think a voter will go to the polls and pull the lever for Romney and then vote for McCaskill. Nope, just won’t happen. Hopefully Aiken will pull this out and can say KMA to Rove.

With McCaskill’s help and by less that a couple of percentage points against the other two candidates in the primary. I just don’t see why everyone sees this guy as some landslide winner! He still seems like a dumb ass to me, but I still hope that he is able to win the seat if he stays.

Thanks for the info, but I don't have the baseline for MO to which I can compare it. In a quick spot check, I can see they oversampled whites and undersampled blacks by about 4 points:

I was not surprised when Rove and the GOPe and faux-conservative pundits all jumped aboard the Communist Propaganda Train and viciously attacked Lakin as a stupid idiot.

But I WAS discouraged when numerous Freepers, perhaps a majority of those who posted, joined the left-wing bashing party.

Lakin made a minor error, mostly the use of the phrase “legitimate rape.”

But Lakin was an experienced, long-term congressman with a very strong and reliable conservative record. That’s why the GOPe and their Communist friends wanted to get rid of him.

Should we throw Lakin under the Obamanoid Bus because he made a single verbal gaffe, after a solid lifetime record of conservative achievement?

Or should we hit back?

Which is worse, killing every baby in sight, or making a minor verbal gaffe?

I was very discouraged at the attitude of numerous freepers. Knee-jerk submission to a left-wing attack isn’t the way to win the game.

What would help is to get the internals of the Rasmussen poll just taken and compare them -- but unless you are a Rasmussen subscriber, you don't get access to those.

Perhaps someone here that subscribes to Rasmussen will post them.

Blacks are probably undersampled because they are least likely to vote -- once.

This poll is almost certainly somewhat too “optimistic”. Todd Akin needs all the help he can get—donations and/or volunteering.

Sure they will split the ticket. Some dim bulbs like divided government and/or do not like Akin.

Akin has no chance in a presidential year with all the ozombie voters getting to the polls. But Akin supporters win either way. He wins and it's I told you so. He loses and you can just blame the GOPe for not supporting him. Great odds you have on this deal.

I must be honest and say that this applies to me, as well.

I think that it is now time for the rest of the Republicans to start supporting him - quietly, if they have no guts, but supporting him nonetheless. Dingy Harry needs to be removed as Majority Leader, and all of the committees need to have Republicans (hopefully the more conservative of the bunch) as their heads. The MO seat may well be critical, and in any case if Akin is elected he’ll balance off one of the RINO beotches from Maine. We also CANNOT let the Senate be controlled by Dems when it comes to approving of federal judges - time to support Akin. If nothing else, drum up as many solid R voters as possible and get them to the polls.

How much do you know about Akin? are you familiar with the previous elections he won in MO? many by large margins. Are you familiar with his voting record? he is more conservative than Romney and most republicans. Fact is..Akin won. Brunner had a ton of money and Steelman was supported by Palin but came in third.
The National Republican Party has tossed millions behind two pro choice candidates. Like it or not Akin is IN and it would be in the best interest of the rino’s in the establishment to unite behind him and defeat the leftwinger known as Claire McCaskill. I find it insulting that Coulter would go on Fox and call Akin a swine and Rove would joke about murder at the Republican Convention. Something stinks about the GOP reaction and there is a lot more than a gaffe behind it.

Tactically speaking, Akin should now discreetly court the national Tea Party, big time.

Here’s the logic.

Akin may still be too hot to publicly support as far as the Tea Party is concerned. However, if he makes it clear he is aligned with their bloc in the Republican party, and wants to work towards their ends when elected, it can work to their mutual advantage.

From the Tea Party’s point of view, it would mean another Tea Party senator. From Akin’s point of view, he would hope to be treated by the Tea Party as a member of their bloc after being elected, which means being a part of their team against the RINOs and Republican establishment that despised him.

Otherwise, as a loner in the senate, he will be fairly powerless. The Republican leadership, which hated him before, and hates him now, will continue to hate him when elected, and do everything they can to minimize him.

Unless he is backed by the Tea Party that will demand they treat him with respect.
