Grams, you might be my age. I, too, remember the gas wars of the 1950s and 19c/gallon. I used to buy retread tires for $6 or $7 that fit my 1941 Olds. That was the time that McDonalds had 15-cent hamburgers, soon to inflate to 18 cents. I cut lawns for $1.00/hour.

Wow, you made the big bucks. I had my first job in 1955 or 1956, $.76 an hour typing collection letters on a manual typewriter. I could type 80 wpm so my boss was impressed and increased my pay to $.80 an hour after I was there a month. Wasn’t quite old enough to work but my mom lied about my age because everybody in the family needed to work. The $7.60 might not seem like a lot but it really helped out in those days.

We never went out to eat so I don’t know if there was a McDonalds or not.
