But I would have to say it doesn’t strike me as immediately obvious what we can do if anything to aid the opposition. I think there are grave risks for the US in arming people whose backgrounds we’re not real aware of. The administration says it is now vetting opposition leaders to see who it can trust… But nonetheless it’s important that we not be arming people that might commit their own atrocities.

I agree with Bolton.

Have we totally forgotten how the Afghani Mujahadeen turned on us after we gave them weapons and support to drive the Russians out of Aghanistan back in the 1980's?

How the Iraq's have turned on us, killing Americans with the weapons we gave them?

And now the Libyans and Egyptians are turning on us after Obama used our own military to support their militant muslim revolution.

I’m glad Bolton believes arming the Syrian rebels is a bad idea. That sounds more like the rational guy I saw him as.

What doesn’t get published in the enemedia is that the “Arab Spring” rebels are killing Christians and other Muslims that are not from the same sect.

Frankly, there is no good side in Syria. While Assad did somewhat protect religious minorities, he was allied with the nutcases in Iran. IMO we should never intervene in any Muslim vs. Muslim violence in a foreign country.

We had absolutely no justification for helping the rebels overthrow Qadafi. Yes, he was a pig, but he was giving us information on al Qaeda and had ceased to work on nukes way back when W was running the show. Now we have feral animals that we (at least most of us here and certainly the preezy and Hillary) knew were in the mix of Libyan rebels.

There may have been a contingent who wanted more freedom, but we KNEW that some of the rebel leaders were al Qaeda because they TOLD us they were.

I totally agree with you: “But nonetheless it’s important that we not be arming people that might commit their own atrocities.” Barky and Hillary have been working to commit us militarily all over the ME and NOT to any good end.
