WASHINGTON One day late last month at American University, Adrienne Pine was in a jam.
The assistant anthropology professor was scheduled to begin her course Sex, Gender & Culture. But her baby daughter woke up with a fever, and the single mother worried that she had no good child-care options.
So Pine brought her sick baby to class.
The baby, in a blue onesie, crawled on the floor when she wasn't strapped onto Pine's back.
The mother extracted a paper clip from the girl's mouth at one point and shooed her away from an electrical outlet.
When the baby grew restless during the 75-minute afternoon session with 40 students, according to the professor's account, Pine breast-fed her while continuing to lecture and review the syllabus.

Brown, Berkley, Berkley, Berkley...yep, I think I see the trend there. Obviously a front-line soldier in the war agains womyn...
She brought a child with a fever into the classroom. What a selfish bitch.
Who was obviously impregnated artificially.
And another thing, her baby daughter woke up with a fever, and her worry was that she had no good child-care options. What a selfish bitch.
Maybe she’s a lefty and hates this country, but I can’t disapprove of what she did. This is what a loving mother does when she has to. Sometimes women have sick babies. We can’t abandon them, and we can’t chuck them into daycare if they’re sick (not that I would anyway). Anybody who can’t deal with the non-sight of a fifteen-pound lump of baby under a woman’s shirt has big problems.
She could have cancelled her class.
I do not have a problem with the teacher breast feeding her baby in class......I do have a problem with her hauling around a baby with a fever to the class.
If hey baby had a fever, why didn’t the mom seek medical attention.
So, apparently she thinks Hondurans are obsessed with violence...wonder what her views on illegal immigration would be?/s (I guess a little drywall-hanging or landscaping in L.A. would gentle ‘em right quick)/s No I am NOT trying to hijack the thread...I just CANNOT understand how these people think!!!
Get over it.
Maybe you think she should wear a full hajib(sp?) too?
Only Muslim cranks and cranky old prudes have an issue with the thought of a woman using her God-given assets in the way her Creator intended. Sheesh.
Wow,is FR letter junior high boys post now? Ya’ know that stage when a little boy tries to feel grown up by using foul language.
What is the issue.
A mother breastfeeding her child is natural.
Pine tar baby?
One of the other faculty members or the associate instructor fills in as a guest lecturer.
Taking a fevered child to a public place is the problem. The little one should’ve been either at the doctor’s or at home! It’s not as though she was going to be fired!
A sick baby should not be crawling around a classroom floor. Did this mother even know what the baby was sick with? She had no problem with the teaching assistant caring for the baby. What does she do about feeding the baby when she does not bring her to the classroom? I guess staying home with her sick child was out of the question.
I’m a mom and the problem isn’t breastfeeding. It’s bringing a baby with a fever to high for daycare to the workplace. When my baby or kids got sick, I or my husband took the day off because our child needed us. If there was a day we absolutely couldn’t miss, we planned in advance with Grandparents or others close to us in case there was going to be any problems. What if her child had a serious, contagious illness? When her class is sick next week, do they lose credit for missing class?
I have to vote for the boobies. Set the boobies free.
Did I say I had a problem with her breastfeeding?
Did you never have to take off time from work because of a sick child?
This woman is kooksville. She probably did it for the shock value.
