I entirely support the states deciding.
I tried to read this entire article, but whoever wrote it must have been as high as a kite.
I am not a fan of drugs, don’t do drugs, and don’t even drink alcohol, but I know two things for certain:
1) Prohibition doesn’t work and the war on drugs is a failure.
2) It is a state’s rights issue and whatever reduces the power of the feds and gives states more sovereignty, I support.
The feds have the power and right to intervene in the international drug trade, but whatever happens within state borders under the purview of the 10th Amendment, that is up to the states and people to decide.
The man sounds like a strict Constitutionalist. We could use a few of those on the SCOTUS bench.
My sentiments exactly. Get the Fed out of it.
I like Paul Ryan and wish the ticket would flip, but the truth is that Ryan will have little or no effect on Romney policy should he get in.
Go ahead and try to grab the cannabis vote in the west - they are so stoned they wont make it past the nearest fast food joint on their way to the polls anyway. But know this - Bishop Willard will never relax the persecution of cannabis users.
Count yourself lucky if he doesn’t add coffee and booze to the list of banned substances!
Let states decide - war on drugs is a nightmare and a waste of billions. Then again, this is coming from a person who reads about the great lengths people go to to sneak cocaine into the US and wonders “Who the hell even uses this stuff?” But marijuana is not cocaine.
There - I have argued with myself. Conclusion - let states decide.
I agree. It is a states rights decision.
States Rights and an unimportant issue at this time in History.

Ryan is 100% correct. This is a States’ rights issue, and the Feds need to close down the DEA.
If you don’t think taxpayer’s money is being stolen right now to pay for the drug war, I’d like to know what you consider theft to be. It’s not just money, but liberty that is being taken from us. Decriminalization of marijuana doesn’t mean the taxpayers will have to buy joints for everyone who wants get high, or supply addicts of other drugs. Even if we have to pay for treatment programs, like we already do, it would be better than paying the cultural and financial price of the black market, militarized police forces, and thousands who are in our prisons who don’t need to be there. ...I’ve been all over the board on this, trying to figure out where I stand. On the one hand, I don’t want to see the spread of drug use, or anyone destroying themselves with drugs, not even marijuana. None of it is a victimless crime. On the other hand, the drug war is doing little to stop supply, despite the billions we’ve spent on it, and we will never win this war, not even with all of our high tech gadgetry, and de-facto state of posse comitatus we exist in. Maybe by getting the Fed out of it, and letting states come up with their own solutions, we can turn the corner on all of this. I fail to see how we could be worse off. And then, as far as I’m concerned, anything that shrinks the power and ability of the Fed to lord over us is good, even if it hurts for awhile.
GREAT IDEA.
There are a lot of Democrat voters that would be easy pickins for us if we would go MORE constitutional on issues.
Another great issue would be Eco-Conservatism, or what I call FOOD FREEDOM. This should also be left to the states, and it would be nice to see the Romney team support it: allowing sale of all supplements, raw milk, encouragement of small, sustainable farms, etc. By supporting states’ rights to allow access to healthful, nutritious foods just as they currently allow even trash foods that have absolutely no nutrients but are harmful. Allow it ALL. Allow people to choose to eat as they wish, including those who wish to eat natural, nutritious food, not jut those who want packaged frankenfood, which apparently all politicians support.
By coming out in support of food freedom, meaning the right of states to sell animal products like raw milk across state lines, and the right to sell supplements, which is coming inexplicably under fire, REPUBLICANS COULD GATHER HUGE SWATHS OF VOTERS.
Dems have done NOTHING for people who wish to use marijuana or people who wish to eat healthfully. Just by going more Constututional, we have their votes.
Paul is correct.
