That is THE image that will ALWAYS stick in my mind. The thought of the shear terror this man experienced is mind numbing. (Of course my mind is pretty numb most of the time.) But, bless his sole and I pray he found peace.
Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years.
It was there that night, the next day and the next day and pretty much still there to some degree a week later ~ I had some neighbors cooked in that fire ~ I know what a burned neighbor smells like.
You never forget.
I have another image that was burned into my mind.
I lost sleep over for several nights afterwards.
It was an image of a man holding a woman’s hand
as they fell. I imagined that he was an executive
holding the hand of his secretary. I was horrified
just thinking about their last minutes before the
decision to jump. I still am.
About that time, I remember a TV commercial selling a cd of
old songs from the ‘50s. It was in black and white and all
were dressed in clothes of the day. Remembering how innocent
those times were and what we’d lost made me weep for our country. I had red eyes for days. They finally, thank God, quit showing it.
And it was only in those days following that I noticed the
sound of a commercial plane flying over our house every night around 10:30 or 11:00. It was eerie and a constant reminder. I’d never hew heard it or thought about it before.
