The recently rolled out "Democrats for Brown" coalition has racked up nearly 500 Democratic politicians and grassroots supporters statewide.
Representative Chris Fallon was the first Democrat currently serving in the State Legislature to cross over when he gave his public endorsement to Republican Senator Scott Brown late last week. Fallon joined the likes of Springfield's former Democratic Mayor Charlie Ryan and Boston's Ray Flynn, as well as Worcester's own former Mayor and current City Councilor Konnie Lukes, who appeared in one of Brown's campaign ads earlier this election cycle.
The three former mayors will serve as co-chairs of the newly-formed coalition.
"I'm truly honored to receive the support of so many Democratic leaders across our state," Brown said in a press release.
"During these challenging economic times, we need to be working with - not against - each other to get things done for the people we represent. We need more bridge-builders and fewer rock throwers. I'm extremely grateful for the support of these Democrats, and pledge to continue working across party lines with any person of good will to find common ground and move our country forward."
Aiming to Cross the Aisle
The creation of the "Democrats for Brown" coalition is the latest in a series of moves by the Brown campaign to emphasize the Republican Senator's work with, and support from, Democrats in the Bay State.
While the message has been all about Democrats crossing the aisle, its real target is likely the independent and undecided voters straddling the middle.
In Massachusetts, registered Democrats, with 1,486,648 voters on the rolls, outnumber their 471,829 Republican counterparts by more than a 3 to 1 margin.
The 500 Democrats who have come out in support of Brown make only a negligible dent in their party's numbers advantage.
With this year's Massachusetts Senate race coinciding with the presidential election, Democratic hopeful Elizabeth Warren is positioned to benefit from President Barack Obama's name at the top of the ballot.
Courting the Middle
However, the Commonwealth's nearly 2.2 million unenrolled voters dwarf the numbers of both major parties, and how they vote is widely predicted to be the deciding factor in the Brown-Warren race.
By appearing equally at home working with Republicans as well as Democrats, said Morgan Marietta, a professor of Political Science at UMass-Lowell, Brown is improving his chances among voters who may feel allegiance to neither party.
"Brown is the everyman who simply wants good government and will work with everyone to make it happen," he said.
"The Brown campaign is consistently communicating to both his base and independents, while Warren has been concentrating more on her base of support among traditional liberals."
Brown's efforts seem to be paying off as recent polling has shown the Senator with a several point lead over his opponent Warren.

Brown is a pro “choice” republican who says we need to be more tolerant of “good” abortion supporters.
I guarantee, he’ll be a democrat inside of a decade.
Warren is going to lose. Even the Democrats know this. She was given a prime spot on national TV and bored the crap out of everyone.
You ask if there are any Republicans for Warren. Just wait and you will see them show up on this thread — conservatives who can’t get over the fact that Brown is not a 100% “conservative” and thus, he does not deserve support. Brown is as good as it gets for a Republican in MA. The alternative to Brown is not a more conservative Republican senator, its a raging liberal Democrat.
If Warren wins, she will be a Senator until she joins Ted.
Fortunately it isn’t my problem which democrat they choose since that’s the only choice they have.
Warren’s got the Native American vote sewed up doesn’t she? And big campaign bucks from the N-A casinos must be flowing in to her HQ too.
It’s unlikely he’d switch parties. You’d have to fight through the rodent party zoo to get the nomination and he’s not moonbat enough.
The MSM does not have the mental capacity in their worldview to see anything but the pro democrat party lens.

Everyone says a conservative can't win in MA; as far as I can see, the main reason is that a conservative can't get nominated -- by either party!
The MA GOP (IMO) has much to answer for in foisting Mitt on the nation . . . gave him his political start.
So far Boston mayor Tom Menino aka Mumbles (who spoke of “Martha Lutha King Joonya” and how he feels the Dems would “bing (sic) jobs to the people” or something, has yet to endorse either Warren or Brown.
Warren’s people are bullbleep about it.
If a true conservative would run in MA for gov, senator, congress etc. then great. Hopefully they would not lose 90-10. I would think there are some smaaaaht folks here, but we have had to grasp for straws. In recent years the likes of Bill Weld, Joe Malone, Mitt Romney, and Scott Brown have managed to win...in a very blue state. It was like pulling teeth to get them elected in some ways but they did it.
Imagine how tough it would be to get a conservative elected.
Remember: this is Massachusetts, where Ted K got re-elected time after time. Had he not gotten brain cancer and died, he would have been up again in 2012. Care to guess how Ted would have done?

This makes Warren look very ineffective and you’d think she’d be far behind him. But the race is still fairly tight (5 point lead for Scott). Again...this is Mass. we are

Bill Weld: A GOP (RINO) gov after Dukakis. His running mate was Paul Cellucci.
When Cellucci left to become amb. to Canada his lt gov Jane Swift took over.
She was a disaster. Her positives were around 12 per cent. Some folks suggested getting Romney in. Things were so bad for Swift she decided not to run. Mitt beats Shannon O’Brien IIRC to become governor. One term (and yes he did spend time at end running for prez). Declined salary (or at least donated it to charity).
Had it not been for the brief run of GOP governors MA would have had the following governors, all Dems:
John Silber
Luther Scott Harshbarger
Shannon O’Brien
maybe others, can’t recall.
When Romney left, Muffy Healey ran and lost to Deval Patrick. Huzzah, the first black governor! Huzzah, a Dem back in office! Patrick won re-election against Charlie Baker (whose running mate Rich Tisei is running vs.

He was the only vote against Kagan north of Kentucky. So when you are done getting rid of the Senate LIBS in the Northeast, let us know.

If Warren wins she will resign in two years so that Deval can appoint Joke3 to the “Kennedy’s Seat”. Benjamin A. Smith did it for Ted Kennedy.
I would like to think that those who shout rino this and rino that, are paid agitators.
Sadly I doubt that to be the case.
I work with a gaggle of them and wonder of wonders they seldom have the ‘I voted today’ stickers handed out at the polls?
