Incredible. This is a report from almost one year ago. I never heard this, because I never watch the mainstream. This video could help people decide who to vote for in November. The lead-in with Obama promising jobs in the U.S. by improving our infrastructure is so typical of all his promises! Our tax dollars are at work- for CHINA !!!

A couple of things here.

1. Much as we might hate to admit it, who currently has the most experience in large scale construction projects? It sure isn’t the USA. We’re stagnant. The Chinese have been building like mad for 20 years now. They have a very experienced construction industry.

2. Most American governments operate under “competitive bid” laws requiring the project be awarded to the most competitive bidder. If the Chinese under bid American firms, they have to get the job.

3. As many people who deal with the Chinese know, when you do business with the Chinese, it’s only after you sign the contract that the real negotiation begins. If the Chinese win a competitive bid up front, they will nickle and dime the government to death with “change orders” and other obfuscations that will drive the cost of the project sky-high. The Chinese are experts at this (some American firms, like Walsh out of Chicago, are pretty good at it too). But under American law, that’s what you get.

4. You could bar the foreign firms from the American market, but as protectionist legislation usually works, it will drive up the price and drive down competitiveness.

The best answer to this is to bring back competitive real private sector economic growth and let government get out of the way. A vibrant, competitive American construction industry will only exist in a growing private sector economy. We keep the Chinese out only by being better than them.

This has gone on long enough to severely damage America.

The time is now. Elect Romney, and have him fix “free trade”, because as things currently stand, neither party is doing jack about the ever increasing problem.

OR we could make it fair by demanding contracts mean the same thing - nickle and dime-ing - by law - must be held to a given percentage of the original bid. For the few American firms that 'scam' this would work as an incentive to be honorable.

It's bad business to set up a system where cheaters win. Perverse incentive that run good companies out of business - or corrupts them - undermine the country.

Do you really think that off-shoring Romney has this in mind?

MADE IN USA awaits being adopted by whichever party loses this election. It will surface in 2016, by which time, unemployment will be worse. Then the 'USA, USA, USA' yell at both conventions will mean just that.

I minored in econ in college. Unfortunately free market economics is apolitical until you reach the "waters edge". Then it is political. When I was young and naive like you I thought ecomomncs operated in a political vacuum. I've since learned.

Here is the class struggle in the USA in a nutshell. The middle class is being jettisoned. The very wealthy need the uneducated migrant poor to clean their toilets and mow their grass and baby sit their bratty chillun'. There is a symbiotic relationship between the upper and lower classes. They need each other. The middle class is a useless, hard to control, mouthy bunch of wannabes. As the middle class dissolves, most will slowly go down, a few up. The remaining middle class will be a few professionals and bureaucrats. This is the Latin American model which we are running towards at break neck speed.

Free Trade speeds up this process.
