Mass insanity I think. The inability to think. I grew up in the 1980's in a democratic blue-collar Catholic home. My parents grew up in the mid-40's to mid 60's. The democrats are for the working man, the Republicans for the rich.
Was nearly thrown out of the house in 1988 when this Catholic middle Class boy realize (or at least thought) that Bush would continue Reagan's pro-growth, low tax, low government dependency anti-Communist, pro-life values and announced I was for Bush over Dukakis. It was like I told them I no longer believed in Christ or that I was gay.
My problem was that I was thinking for myself.
I have been the black sheep of my family every since. The rest are good, caring, Christian, loving, people who what the best for America. They just can't think, which is the definition of insanity when it comes to politics.
But the odd thing is now that the Democrat party is officially in the process of becoming the "gay" party and the "anti-Christian" party they're still probably voting for them.
I feel for you man. Fortunately, my mom & dad were Republicans but my dad & I still go at because he believes I am an entrenched extremist. I use the analogy that Jonah Golberg recently used. One side says we need to build a Bridge the other side says it is not necessary. The “ moderate” says, hey let’s compromise & build it half way across the chasm. Now who is the extremist?
I hear you! My father died in ‘95 and he said a short time before his death that the dumbest thing the country ever did was elect Reagan and then they turned around and elected him again! Now I have a stepson who is a 37 year old man child who actually thinks Obama should be reelected. I studiously avoid having to speak to him unless it is absolutely necessary. If we get into a conversation I know that it will end with me telling him he is a fool. He is the classical IQ genius but a fool in terms of understanding reality. He tries to deal with the world on a theoretical basis. I was the same way once but I grew out of it long before I reached his age. I don’t think he ever will.
