“Never understood why Clinton is somehow immune to the general public.”

A lot of that is media hype; when he left office the Republicans won the White House and both houses of Congress. In hindsight people remember that at least they were working back then, but in November of 2000 the American voters vented their discontent against BJ Clinton by voting for W. If the economy was so rosy Gore would have trounced Bush; the fact is that there were already cracks appearing, and we had no other way to punish the sexual harasser.

Yes. Agreed. Clinton got himself elected and reelected with just 43 and 49% of the vote. Never overwhelming. He has had almost zero coattails for anyone else. The democrat party lost at all levels during his presidency. They had a majority of governors and lost it, lost the House and Senate throughout. His VP lost, his wife lost in 2008. He has not had a good track record in other campaigns...no sign of any real impact. He was up in wisconin during the failed recall as ‘the guy’ who would get out all those blue collar votes. Walker won overwhelmingly.

Clinton is a talented politician, but it only seems to work when it is boosting Bill Clinton.
