Romney, GOP Groups Pull Ads From Michigan and Pennsylvania
Talking Points Memo ^ | 9/6/2012 | Eric Kleefeld

Posted on 09/06/2012 4:24:23 PM PDT by taildragger

Republicans signaled this week that they might have given up hope in two important swing states. TPM Slideshow: Romney Takes The Stage At The RNC

The Romney campaign and conservative groups like Crossroads GPS have pulled TV ads in Michigan, Romney’s home state, according to the Detroit News.

Nor are the campaign and super PACs running advertising in Pennsylvania, after unleashing a barrage there over the past five months.

It is still possible for groups to purchase TV advertising in either state at a later date.

The PollTracker Averages show President Obama ahead 48.9 percent to 45.4 percent in Michigan, and in Pennsylvania, where he leads 49.9 percent to 41.4 percent.

What?! I thought Pennsylvania was do-able for the Republican ticket.

PA isn't even a swing state. It's solid blue.

The libs in Facebook land are celebrating today...they think it's over thanks to Bubba and now this news on pulling ads. Thankfully Mitt wants to win! :)

Guess they saw a much different convention than others saw. They are such a minority. I saw a naked emperor and they saw him (them)clothed in golden threads.

It takes ever bit of 10 minutes to cook up some new important sounding web presence and then make some “news” claim.

Of the battleground states ...

North Carolina should be the easiest for us to take

Florida, Ohio and Virginia these will be tough but we should win each of them

McCain’s states, plus IN, NC, FL, VA and OH, plus one more from the following, and we win.

New England - New Hampshire
Midwest - Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa
Rocky Mountain - Colorado and Nevada

NOW let’s think a little more ...

FL, WI, VA, OH and MI - Senate pick-up opportunities!

So, MI will be in the list of states that we’ll be contesting, and PA maybe not

The point is, the Romney campaign, the RNC, and the various 527s have money to spend after the glow from the Demagogic convention is gone. The numbers tipped a little toward Romney in blue states as a consequence of the Pubbie convention, and Zero can’t afford to lose any of those; he’ll have to blow a lot of his campaign cash shoring up what was to be a sure thing here and there, while Romney spends the next couple of weeks opening and widening leads elsewhere. I think Michigan is going to tip toward Romney on election night, but it is going to be close. Turnout outside of corrupt Detroit and Wayne County will be very good. In 2008 I couldn’t even believe the lines. In 2012 I will vote as soon as possible in the morning.

I agree. Synder has done more good in two years than the dems did in 8.

PA hasn't been doable since 1988 even when the state had a pair of Republican senators and a Republican governor.

Obama will likely win MI buy pushing the GM angle. Sad but true.

It's TalkingPointsMemo and uberlib Eric Kleefeld. Take it with a larger grain of salt.

That said, PA is not going to Romney. It hasn't gone GOP since 1988. Michigan will probably stay Obama because of the GM talking point.

There's nothing to be concerned about. They are not necessary for Republicans to win as W showed.

But you and I in our heart would probably love to see a gob-smack down on the mat on States that we wouldn’t have tought would be in Romney’s camp. I live here in Michigan, IMHO I think it is win-able. The GM talking points? They are hooey and we know it, I do not say that with glee, I have friends their and on their pension. It is not IMHO if but when they are in serious trouble again. That concept is coming into peoples fertile brains, the not so up to speed have no clue they are in trouble....

thought VA was full of liberal union gov workers

Regarding unionized gov workers: Northern VA certainly is, and to a lesser extent Hampton Roads (although that has a huge military component and from the license plates in the area they probably vote via absentee in Florida).

Regarding LIBERAL unionized gov workers: not so much. The gov workers who live in NoVA are a different, and decidedly more Conservative, breed from those living in MD who are extremely Liberal. They are also, in my experience, downright ticked at Obama over a variety of things, including the pay freeze and proposed .005 pay increase for FY13. Now before everyone jumps up and down about selfish government drones feeding off the public $$$ trough, remember that the cost of living in the DC is so high and the positions overwhelmingly white collar (working in headquarters units) that it's one of the very few areas of the country where gov workers make less on average than their private sector counterparts.

In reality the "purpling" of VA, driven by the "blueing" of NoVA has been driven more by the rapid growth and continued strength of the tech sector out on the Dulles Corridor than by gov workers. This is also why Loudoun County is starting to move towards purple as well.

This appears to be somewhat behind the curve. Earlier in the week there were all kinds of article about Romney/Ryan not advertising here and there, then Friday after the DNC convention closed, that Romney/Ryan was swamping the airwaves in swing states.
