Knesset Speaker Rivlin says Democrats' reinstatement of Jerusalem as Israel's capital in party platform too little too late.
The addition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital to the Democratic platform does not make up for the party's original intentions, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said on Thursday
"I have no doubt that [US President Barack] Obama put Jerusalem back in his party's platform out of political and electoral considerations and because of the sharp criticism from Israel and the US," Rivlin stated. Related:
Democrats amended the party platform Wednesday afternoon to include language supporting Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The last-minute change came in the wake of mounting criticism from Democratic members of Congress incensed that the 2008 platform's declaration backing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel had been removed from the 2012 text. Sources close to the platform drafting process said Obama personally intervened on reinstating the Jerusalem language. The whole 2012 platform was originally adopted during the Democratic convention Tuesday night.
The Knesset Speaker said that the DNC did not remove Jerusalem from the platform "by mistake or because of forgetfulness," and the change was not a coincidence that can be explained away by not paying attention.
"This is a problematic sign, indicating the gradual reduction of the American government's strategic commitment to Israel," he explained.
On Wednesday, prior to the reinstatement of Jerusalem as Israel's capital in the DNC platform, Rivlin had stated that Obama does not understand the realities of the Middle East.
The fact that the Democrats removed a united Jerusalem as Israels capital from their platform is more worrying than the argument over Iran, Rivlin told The Jerusalem Post.
After spending 3 months in Israel, I long realized the JP usually just re-prints the NYT.
JP is pissed!
and how is that working out for them?
lol.

Honestly Charlie, he was counting on others, he had some other duties and responsibilities so when he learned that it had been taken out of the platform, he had it put back in, Axelrod said, explaining that the President learned about the missing language yesterday."
Yeah, Barry's always busy with other stuff and can't deal with things like that. He probably had to get clearance from Jarrett before having the "missing language" put back in.
Hey, Sports Center was on. Don't get between Barry and Sports Center.
[[’Obama only put J’lem back in platform for votes’ (from Jerusalem Post]]
obviouisly- This is the say anythign do anythign to get reelected president- he is incapable of tellign hte truth but sadly this country and inexplicably this country’s jewish residents, wil lfall for his lies yet again- He blatantly lied the first time, and a lot of peopel fell for his obvuious BS, and they will fall for it again sadly- He’ll convince them he loves israekl EVEN THOUGH he was caught on camera bad mouthing Netenyahu- He was caught redhanded showign his disgust for Netenyahu- but he convinced jews he ‘didn’t mean it the way it was caught o ncamera’ and he’ll convince citizens he’s ‘on the right track and just needs 4 more years becasue if he isn’t relected, then the GOP wil lruin what he’s started and the country will fail’ OR, He’ll claim that IF a republican is elected, and the country startys to recover quickly, that it was because of hisd policies and that his polocies were beginnign to take shape and the GOP stole the thunder from him
The ONLY way the gop can avoid this is IF they completely abandon all of whiny o’s socialist policies, throw them out, and start over completely AND to announce along the way LOUD AND CLEAR that htey are doign aweay with whiny o’s faield policies because his policies were ruinign htis country that way whiny o won’t be able to legitimately claim the GOP is riding his shirtail to victory regardign hte economy- but you watch- He’ll still manage to claim any success by hte GOP was only possible because he made it possible and hte peopel will eat it up too
The headline speaks for itself.
“The Knesset Speaker said that the DNC did not remove Jerusalem from the platform “by mistake or because of forgetfulness,” and the change was not a coincidence that can be explained away by not paying attention. “
The no’s and boos at the DNC proved it.
Dat b J’Lem or J-Town?
They certainly have a flair for the obvious !!
Republicans should have said nothing and pointed it out after the platform was official. It would have been a nice stone to hang around their necks over and over.
Not certain, but I think some Dems got the idea it needed to be changed before Republicans commented.
This incident should provide smoking-gun evidence to all Jewish-Americans and other supporters of Israel that they should not vote for Democrats.
The fact that ‘’the last-minute change came in the wake of mounting criticism from Democratic members of Congress,’’ means that their criticism was feeble or nonexistent when it was needed — that is, when the Democratic platform was being prepared and voted on. Only after it was adopted and their constituents raised the issue did the Democrats go panic-stricken to Obama for an immediate pro-God and pro-Jerusalem amendment.
In contrast, the Republican platform had everything right the first time. The Republican party supports God and Israel, and the Democratic party boos God and Israel. The choice couldn’t be clearer.
Yeah, he had to get permission from Mommy Valerie to put it back in! Mommy dearest would be really angry if baby boy put it back in without asking her first!
Has Bibi commented on this yet? I would love to hear his take!
Wonder how many thank you cards Obama received from Iran for not doing anything?.
This incident has now traveled the world, and the whole world now knows what they’ve already known. Obama is only out for his own skin, and his skin only - at the expense of his own party’s image and most of his own party members, his delegates, and his country (see his own words to Medvedev re Europe missiles).
