They make you feel good.
Not very important when it comes to politicians however any more it is all that matters to many voters.
A drug pusher can make someone feel good.
On a related note, how well they can sing or dance or whether they’re “cool” or how many kids they’ve had (or whether they’ve had kids at all) also have no bearing on what their attitudes towards, e.g. the Constitution or what the proper role of government might be. But, in this world of American Idol, it’s apparently all that matters.

You answered your own question by saying you would not vote for someone you did not like.
It’s very difficult for a politician who people do not feel are both likeable and trustworthy to get elected. The realty doesn’t matter - the perception does.
I think the ‘likeability factor’ was one of the main reasons Hillary got beat out by Obama. I know - I don’t see anything at all to like in the man, but the fact is the people that voted for him did.
It is a mystery to me why the adjective “likable” is applied to Barack Hussein Obama. Vain, narcissistic, arrogant, mendacious, and totally lacking in empathy, none of which are any kind of synonym for “likable”.
Just another dress-up job by the media hype.
You simply cannot apply polish to fecal matter. Doesn’t stop them from trying, though.
Barry is a brand - like a car manufacturer.
When people don’t like the brand they won’t go near it.
When I was younger, some people would proclaim that they, “Won’t ever buy a Japanese car.” This stance made them immune to all the arguments advanced by the Japanese car manufacturers and the fans of their autos - quality, cost, economic, etc.
Hopefully, TOTUS and his fans will face the same obstacle.
