I strongly recommend viewing that Rodney King documentary video that was linked in the original article. (part 2/5) It shows the fear, confusion and mis-communications in the early part of the riot, when the police departed from Florence and Normandie, leaving it to the mob. It is a case-study in how these situations will be mishandled. It is totally worth 20 minutes of your time. Really, watch it, carefully.

After watching that, a big difference is the prevalence of armed citizens in other parts of the country, as compared to CA. Our two states, GA and FL, have about 5%-6% of the population with CCW licenses. That translates into *big* numbers of people carrying.
If I managed to be stupid enough to get hemmed in, and had guys with bricks running at me, I’d be shooting. I expect you would be, too. There are a lot like us. Plenty of people have been watching events of that nature over the last 20 years, even though they’ve been downplayed in the media. It’s part of the reason CCW numbers are so high.
I really think any events that got started would be short-lived in free states. Places like CA, NY, MA, IL? Well, that’s a very different thing.
