Did Mitt Romney make the economic sale at the Republican National Convention? Did he convince people who are living at the margin or unemployed and discouraged that he has the answers to the economy? Frankly, I dont think so.

I agree with this. Romney’s delivery was good, but the speech itself was weak. Could have been much better.
The most memorable parts of the speech were the parts about his family.
I finally can pin point what annoys me no end when Obama speaks...its that little whistle sound when he pronounces his ‘s’. To me its nails on a blackboard. Am I alone in this?
I’m just annoyed when obama speaks. I’d prefer he didn’t. I can’t stand the sound of his voice.
Anybody who thinks it is sexy should get some counseling.
Kudlow is sickening. It is hard to believe that people make such idiots of themselves in the public media.
I’m with Kudlow. And the “convention bounce” in the polling looks so weak that it’s almost certain the Democrats will be able to roll it back and then some. In the primaries they kept telling us, this election is going to be a referendum on Obama, so we just need a boring candidate who won’t turn anybody off, so that we can keep the focus on Obama. Then they run a convention and Rove and friends direct most of the major speakers to steer clear of criticizing Obama. WTF? The GOP-e never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
So when should they come out with the plan? November 5th, because then the dems only have a few hours to attack it. It shows nothing but cowardice to base your moves on a fear that the enemy will attack you for them. How about having some confidence that your plan will actually be more liked by the American public and won't be vulnerable to criticism.
Instead they spent most of the convention responding to the Dems' attacks of the past couple months. Almost every speech was trying desperately to make Republicans sound women-friendly, willing to spend unlimited money on Medicare, and not "too rich." They played defense for most of the convention. Which means the Dems won a lot of ground. They get to play offense again at their convention. Without Eastwood, the convention would've had very little bite at all. He's getting so much press partly because everyone expected to hear the type of things he said all week, but almost all of that talk was concentrated solely in Eastwood's speech. And it probably only happened because Rove and friends didn't dare tell Eastwood what to do according to their timid, focus-grouped, poll-tested playbook.
[[Romney Didnt Make the Sale]]
And obammer is making the sale? Romeny did a hell of a lot better than whiny o has been doign for the last 3 1/2 years- Hell- even if romeny had stood on stage and never uttered a word he would have doen a hell of a lot better job thjan whiny o has doen for the last 3 1/2 years- Whiny o has done the job for romeny- whiny o has proven that another 4 years of him at the helm would be disasterous for this coutnry and our constitution- a freakin potatoe would do a better job than whiny o has done- Basicallty whiny o has done NOTHING but violate our constitution while partying on America’s dime while millions of peopel have been ouyt of work and lost hteir homes- He and his family have squandered who knows how many humdreds of millions of taxpayer dollars partying liek there was no tomorrow—
Romen is FAR from perfect- but what we have i nthe white hosue right now has been the most disasterous thing this country has doen to itself in a long long time and he needs to be booted out of office with a ‘see ya, don’t let the dopor hit you in the #@%$ o nthe way out’- I cringed when Clinton won secodn term, but cripes- 12 hyears of clinton would have been preferable to whiny o and the damage he has doen this country-
Romeny didn’t need to ‘make the case’- whiny o made the case already and it’;s clear our country hired a complete incompetent who simply wanted to party on our dime while millions suffered at his feet!
That would be a moronic strategy.
1. Energy
2. Education (BS, as far as I am concerned since it should be a local issue)
3. Trade agreements
4. Reduce the deficit
5. Support small business by reducing taxes, simplifying regulation and repealing and replacing Obamacare.
Exactly how much more detail do you want? Whatever he would have said last week would have been cannon fodder for the DNC convention.
He wasn’t supposed to. This was the ‘get to know me’ moment. The economic sale happens in advertisements, now that Romney has access to that money.
Maybe Kudlow lurks on FR.
If so, that would explain his nagging worry that Romney is not fully committed to a conservative, supply-side, market-oriented economic policy.
After all, the Convention was an ideal platform to lay it all out and make the sale, wasn't it? So, why would he hold back?
IF Romney can get around the GreenieWeenies and maximize oil and nat gas drilling, (i.e. wells, pipelines, refineries) maximize clean coal mining and coal electric generation, and build more nuclear plants that would mean hundreds of thousands of great paying jobs with great benefits. Exactly how much damn detail did you want Romney to get into?
I liked the New Mexico Governor. I absolutely, loved it when she said, “I'll be damned, we are Republicans!”.
Condi was not half bad and Mia Love was a firebrand.
I have no problem with the Romney strategy. Sorry that you do.
And if you didn't like Rubio’s or Ryan's speeches, well what can I say?
I won’t be voting for Mittens but I thought he did a nice job with his speech.
The energy plan is the only thing I have unequivocal confidence in Romney/Ryan to do correctly. I think just like the dot-com and the housing booms gave us economic boosts in the two previous decades, energy is our best chance to have an economic boom this decade. But aside from Nikki Haley, I didn’t hear much during the convention about how Obama has been trying to block energy production.
Bottom line is they spent too much time on “personality” issues and trying to smooth over their perceived points of weakness, and not enough time attacking Obama on Obama’s weak points. They should have been relentless about that and driven home the point that this is a referendum on Obama. That’s what they told us this election was going to be about and then they backed away from it at the convention, except for Eastwood. And the polls are already showing he had the most effective speech at the convention. We got too much fluff about the Republicans being “nice guys” and not nearly enough telling us why Obama is a bad President.
“Why would he hold back?”
Because he is a politician.
You (I assume) and I aren’t.
