CHARLOTTE, N.C. A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention.
Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture, built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out the sand that had washed off the facade.

You have to be joking. Is there an alter for sacrifices?

Wish I’d have known, I’d be happy to pound down a few beers and help wash it away...

The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

Just set an empty chair out there instead. Everyone will know it’s Obama.

"The large Rushmore-style sculpture drew comparisons to Mr. Obama's 2008 convention in Denver, when he accepted his party's nomination on a stage that looked like a Greek temple."
It's all rather disturbing for me. It takes me back to my time in central Africa. Strutting petty dictators. Grandiose statuary. Crumbling monuments to kleptocrats. Soaring Greek revival crap housing a central bank completely gutted by corruption, incompetence, and malice of forethought...and it's all happening here.

Something quite symbolic about the sand washing away. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. Doubt the dems get the symbolism.

You know if they had something like that for Romney - the Vaginas would have been all over it.

Just when it seemed he couldn’t get more conceited, he has them build this. It’s almost unbelievable. You can’t make this $hit up.

God speaks in many ways. After Hurricane Isaac drifted west and avoided Tampa, I’ll be watching for a message from the sky when the Dems gather in S.C.

Can't they do
something? Pretty Please? With Arugula on top?
I had so looked forward to watching the convention with the Obama edifice as a backdrop to President Obama's Nobel Prize Presidential Nomination acceptance speech.

First the sand sculpture at the Ritz and now this! Just read that it hasn't been confirmed if he will stay over after Thursday's acceptance speech at Bank of America Stadium, but locals are hinting that road restrictions are scheduled next week near the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge in south Charlotte.
