This was a reckless boast on Ryan’s part. Politicians, of course, routinely do this kind of thing and must be called on it when nailed. However, if the rats want to make a big deal out of it then let’s revisit, ad infinitum, their own “stolen valor” scumbags, Senators Richard Blumenthal and Tom Harkin, who both lied about being Vietnam veterans.

There is a big difference between recklessly, even if innocently, exaggerating an old marathon time with claiming to be a war veteran. Ryan should get a smack on the back of the head from Romney; Blumenthal and Harkin should be in jail.

Best marathon 1987 was 2 hrs. 55 mins.
I was 39, training with hope to complete
Hawaii Ironman Triathalon.
Under 9% body fat.
Got burned out by the stress, demanded
discipline.

My running days are over, replaced by walking and cycling.
Really enjoy exercise, being fit & healthy, outdoors, etc.

It was reckless. And, yes, there bare people on the other side who lied about far worse. But and both know that Democrats and Republicans will not be treated equally. If Paul Ryan wanted to be given a pass for this kind of thing, he should have been a Democrat.

Hey, I actually used to be in semi good shape. Most people never are - probably like you. So don't say liar if you don't what you're talking about.

Heck, I've even ran upper 60 minute 10 milers - that's just trotting the last couple of miles because I slowed down lots after the first six or so. BTW, there was another guy at the beach that was a professional middleweight boxer. Ranked. It was an eclectic group of individuals.

and another thing...

I just don’t know why people keep track of their times if it’s not going to be competitive. Mine, I didn’t really care because I knew I’d never be good enough to compete at the highest levels.

Once one realizes that, then the exercise is just for fun. Otherwise it’s just a petty quest to beat some granny like you over the finish line. I hate being called a liar.

Seriously Nick, you’re posting propaganda from the New Yorker?

Shame on you.

How is it propaganda? Paul Ryan himself directly contacted the New Yorker. Paul Ryan's staff chose to comment to them. Blame him, not me. (The original statement was made by Paul Ryan on Hugh Hewitt's radio show) I have no control over what Paul Ryan does.

Some people can keep things in their heads (maybe they don’t have important things to recall). I used to remember pedigrees in great detail and find that these days I can’t do it. I have to look them up (it’s a little embarrassing sometimes when discussing dogs, but it is what it is).

And yes, it’s why people learned to write things down. Records are a wonderful thing to have on hand when you need them. :)

Um...directly cut and pasted from the article that you posted, the author states:

"I contacted the campaign this evening about the discrepancy. Ryan, through a spokesman, responded that he’d just mixed things up"

Paul Ryan did NOT contact the New Yorker. So *your* claim was false!

Directly cut and pasted from your first post on this thread:

"A sub-3 hour mile is really fast. How could he not know he was claiming a near miraculous feat?"

He didn't say he ran a sub-3 hour mile. He said he ran a sub-3 hour marathon.

So, *your* claim was false!

You didn't just misspeak or mix things up. No, you made TWO false claims! You, nickcarraway are just like Al Gore!

Obviously, I meant that he ran a sub 3 hour marathon. That's what all the articles said. A sub 3 hour mile would not be noteworthy at all. Why are you blaming me for something Paul Ryan did?

So you don't consider Paul Ryan's spokesman to be Paul Ryan contacting the New Yorker The New Yorker made up the fact that Paul Ryan said his claim was wrong? Are you contending that Paul Ryan did run a sub 3 hour marathon?

You plainly wrote that:

"Paul Ryan himself directly contacted the New Yorker."

That is plainly a false claim!

You plainly wrote that:

"A sub-3 hour mile is really fast. How could he not know he was claiming a near miraculous feat?"

He never said that. That's plainly another false claim you made.

Now you've added yet a third false claim that Paul Ryan's spokesman contacted The New Yorker, even though I already provided you the direct copy from your own article plainly stating that The New Yorker contacted the Ryan campaign.

Why are you blaming me for your false claims and misstatements, and expecting forbearance for what you "obviously" meant? You're just like Al Gore.

Stop stalking me. I stopped replying to you when I realized you just like to fight about nothing. Calling me names does not make you look very impressive.

People are dying in American embassies in the middle east.

This is a totally stupid and inane attack.

Who really gives a shit how fast Jack “Paul” Ryan runs?
