A Norwegian prison is looking to hire people to be friends with mass killer Anders Behring Breivik, according to reports.
Ila prison hopes to find people willing to play hockey, chess and otherwise interact with Breivik, who is on trial for massacring 77 people in a bomb attack in Oslo and a shooting at a summer camp for young people on Utoeya island in July last year.
Citing Norway's Verdens Gang, the U.K.s Telegraph newspaper reported that the "friends" would be trained experts as Breivik, 33, is feared to be too dangerous to mix with other prisoners.
"It could be anything from a team for indoor hockey to people who are willing to play chess with him," Knut Bjarkeid, director of the Ila prison said, according to the Telegraph's translation
jarkeid said it was feared that Breivik might take other prisoners hostage in an attempt to escape if he was allowed near them. The killer is expected to serve at least 21 years in prison.
Under Norway's laws, prisoners cannot be kept in isolation for a long time as that is considered to be unduly cruel, the AFP news agency said.
"Many of the initiatives around Breivik are designed to prevent hostage-taking," Bjarkeid told Verdens Gang. "This makes it impossible to provide normal contact with others."

What are they going to do for his sexual needs? Hire a professional?
Isn’t it good, Norwegian wood?
A perfect opportunity for the relatives of the deceased to form a hockey team and beat him to death with the hockey sticks.
Poison the puck?
Will he get extra time in the “sin bin” when he slashes and spears his competitors??
Hoping someone shanks him.
This crazed killer only got sentenced to 10-22 years for killing 77 people. Don’t they have life sentences over there in Norway? Obviously they don’t have the guillotine which is what he should have had yesterday. Just f’n incredible.
Welcome to harsh euro justice , he will be out in 10 years, relocated, and assigned a new identity
They're going to PAY people to entertain this animal ! People of Norway .... your criminal justice system is a JOKE !
Indeed it is, especially in light of Norway's demographics.
Consider the following.
From Norway.org
Norway's population exceeded 4.8 million in 2008. This is an increase of over 1.5 million since 1950. Today net immigration contributes more to population growth than the net natural increase in the total population.
Using communist revolutionary guerilla doctrine, Breivik's operation was a resounding success. Maximum kill/wound count for minimal expenditure. Sustained global media attention. Huge demoralizing effect on population. Diverting resources for his trial and detainment. And now this. By red standards Breivik wound have been awarded the highest "Hero of the Revolution"
Norway with it' tiny population its growing alien invasion can't sustain the net effects of such attacks. It has become to stupid to survive as a cultural and quite possibly a nation given the path they've taken. Either they choose to fight now or flee later.
They don't. However, he can be held past their maximum sentence if he is deemed to remain a threat to others--and although I think they have to periodically revisit their decision, they can hold him indefinitely using that procedure.
Breivik, 33, is feared to be too dangerous to mix with other prisoners.
But it’s ok to hire someone to play chess with him??Who ever they get better let Breivik win.
77 people slaughtered and they turn it into a carnival.
How about hiring some NHL enforcers to slam him into the boards and pound on him for a while. And once they are done playing chess they can strap on the skates and get really nasty.
It actually might be interesting to play chess with him.
A local radio host once asked, who would you rather go on a cross country trip with - Hitler or Manson?
I chose Hitler, because I’ve seen Manson’s ramblings on TV. I’d throw him out the window after 100 miles. With Hitler, at least we might have some semblance of an intelligent conversation.
This post is NOT in any way intended to portray Brevik or Hitler in a positive light. For discussion purposes only.
There is a sort of back door way of making sure Mr. Breivik never gets out.
After his sentence is concluded, he can be remanded another 5 years, as he’s a “danger to self and others”. And after that 5 years is up, another 5 years, and so on, ad infinitum.
Essentially, it would end up being a whole-life sentence. There is no country in Europe (EU) that has a death penalty, though sentencing standards are different per country.
If I could play chess with anyone, it would be Josef Stalin. That would be something, to put it mildly.
If I wanted a cold, cerebral conversation about the “iron laws of history” while playing chess (or a cross-country road trip), I’d have to go with either Lenin or Mussolini, or maybe Franco in a pinch. Both are widely considered to have been exceptionally intelligent men (and they both spoke English, too!).
