Part of the genius in the use of the imaginary Obama was that Eastwood didn’t want us to see the chair as empty. This enabled him to correctly depict Obama’s reaction to being criticized.

“Tell Romney to go f#@k himself”.

“Go f#@k yourself Eastwood”.

And by implication...

“Go f#@k yourself courts”.

“Go f#@k yourself legislative branch”.

“Go f#@k yourself Catholic Church”.

“Go f#@k yourself private sector”.

I think they knew what Clint would do and he set the exact tone they wanted him to set. a Human tone. I think it made all of them look better. It also pulled in some libertarians I know. dont ask me why? I knwo they got what he was saying and wh? It was brilliant of him to use a James Stewart character to make his point considering some of Stewarts other classics. He made Obama an cartoon for sure. now there is a picture floating around the internet of an empty chair..Oama’s new portrait.

I bet old folks ate it up. Tell Florida that Eastwood is the running mate and it’s in the bag.

I played that speech in my business 10 times yesterday... to people that had not seen it. Not one single person thought it “sucked”. They all laughed their arses off and said it was refreshing to see a real American speak the Truth to millions. That speech gives people real reason to believe that we can turn this wreck around and get her into drydock for repairs.

Also his Thespian bow at the end of the skit is further proof of his character... Clint is a Character Actor... and a great Director to boot.

Add me as a YES!

It could have been a little less rambling but Clint is 82 and not a natural stand up comic.

YES!

“I loved everything he had to say last night, but can we please admit the speech sucked?”

Why would I concede that when it was a brilliant piece of political theater?

MSNBC had been talking about dog whistles all week, and completely missed the one that did sound during the convention - Eastwood's sketch. It sounded a note that everyone that voted for Obama in 2008 believing the hype of hope and change and post-racial politics heard. It told them that it was okay *not* to vote for Obama this time.

And he did it in a way that hyperpartisans on both sides did not hear the message. All they saw was a goofy old man.

Again - the message was not intended for people for whom politics is a participative sport or even a spectator sport. It was not aimed at the racists that supported Obama for his color or radicals that voted for Obama for his politics. They did not hear anything except an annoying buzz. It was aimed at those that believe in the American Dream that voted for Obama hoping that it meant we were beyond race and beyond partisan politics. Freepers may laugh at their naivety, but there were lots of them out there — and these are the people that will decide this election.

And if you didn't get it? Didn't hear the message? You need to take a step or two away from politics. It has become too big a part of your life.

Thanks, Dynachrome.

Did you see Clint? It was refreshing to watch somebody ridiculing O’Bunghole on national TV. I hope it opens the floodgates on TOTUS.
