As the Republican National Convention wound down Thursday evening, Sarah Palin said it was time for Mitt Romney to "quit preaching" to the conservative Republican base and get on with targeting the Reagan Democrats and independents he'll need to win the White House.
"Obviously the convention helps. It builds enthusiasm," said Palin, who did not attend the GOP gathering in Tampa. "But we have to, you know, beyond tonight, quit preaching to the choir.
"We need to talk to the independents out there in America, the hard-core patriotic American who wants a job," she told Fox News' Sean Hannity, adding that the Republican presidential nominee has to reach out as well to "Reagan Democrats who are not obsessed with partisanship" and want to know, as President Ronald Reagan used to say, "that our best days are in front of us."
"That's who we need to reach," she said.
The former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee also warned Romney to prepare for more negative attacks as he tries to peel off support from President Barack Obama.
"It perhaps will get even worse in these next 60-some days" before the November election, she said. "Everybody needs to hang on to their hats."
Palin, now a Fox News contributor, again attacked her favorite target, the mainstream media, which she characterized as "lapdogs" for Obama, and which she still blames for the Republican loss in the 2008 presidential election....

That means the 80% who are liberals would accept him - hardly.
“Oh I mean Romney sorry.
Ive been backing Romney since the day Palin decided not to run.”
Please tell me that is still a typo.
Thanks! Wish I could afford it.
That’s what he did in his speech on Thursday night !
bump
What Palin are you talking about?
She is firm in conservatism, unlike some on FR, who cave because they live in fear.
Damn right. Everyone is not a small business owner!!!
The constantly discordant note for me is that the political class (which Romney abides by) always wants to court the ‘independent voter’ as if they are all moderate mushminds who are offended by taking any stances on any issues and only respond to non-committal, mealy-mouthed limp-wristedness. But the real ‘independents’ I’ve always found, who are indeed in the vein of Reagan Democrats, actually respond most to old-fashioned strength and convictions. In other words, the exact opposite. Frankly, I’m not convinced Romney is selling too well with this group that Palin is talking about, and thus the need for shoring that up.
Nope.
I’ve been for Romney since the day Palin stepped down.
Sorry.
“I presume quite preaching to the choir and target independents means Romney should move to the center. LOL. It will be interesting to how Palins supporters react to her move to the left message.”
I also had the same impression, though Palin takes her job as a purveyor of opinion seriously and tends to give commentary on all sorts of things. Kind of like how I used to fill up college papers with fluff to get the necessary amount of pages. But if she was really advocating he “move to the center” with her heart and soul, I can only imagine that she secretly is trying to trick Romney into exposing himself even further than he has before.
The real question is why?
“Nope.
Ive been for Romney since the day Palin stepped down.
Sorry.”
This is basically like confessing to be a liberal. I recall reading articles by angry Mittbots complaining that eeeevil Jim purged all the Mittbots early on. It’s one of the reasons I joined the forum. How did you survive this reckoning? Were you honest about this position before the nomination fight was settled?
My first loyalty was (always) been to Palin.
Since before she was even nominated. That may be the reason I survived.
I don’t know. But here I am. :D
??? I don't understand what you are saying anymore than I understand what Palin is saying. She's trying to trick Romney into doing something, for what? To help Obama win?
The convention was geared to the 2-3% mushy middle independent undecidedes...why do you think there was so little hammering on Obama and he wasn’t named in person?
I have to say she’s wrong in this case.
“??? I don’t understand what you are saying anymore than I understand what Palin is saying. She’s trying to trick Romney into doing something, for what? To help Obama win?”
Maybe she is operating under a purely Christian compulsion to expose the farce this election has become in running Hillary— err, sorry, Romney against Obama.
I was wrong. I thought I had read stupid things on FR before, but honestly I think you just won the prize.
Good luck living in a 2nd Obama term. Are you sour grapes losers really this stupid?
Gee, if your such an expert, then why don't you decipher for us her meaning of "quit preaching to the choir" and "target independents."
