Newt Gingrich on Thursday came to Todd Akins defense, calling the embattled Missouri Senate candidate honorable and sincere.
Speaking to POLITICOs Mike Allen at the Playbook Afternoon Snack event here, the former House speaker said the controversy surrounding Akins recent legitimate rape comments was a good example of why the power structure in Washington sometimes ought to take a deep breath.
Todd Akin made a mistake. Hes an honorable guy, hes a sincere guy. He said something stupid. There was a firestorm, Gingrich said.

So, what you're saying is that it's OK to be pro-life, but just don't speak out or make an issue of it.
You might not work for Rove in the sense of drawing a paycheck, but you're doing the work of people like him anyway.
