Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign toasted its top donors Wednesday aboard a 150-foot yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands.
The floating party, hosted by a Florida developer on his yacht "Cracker Bay," was one of a dozen exclusive events meant to nurture those who have raised more than $1 million for Romney's bid.
"I think it's ironic they do this aboard a yacht that doesn't even pay its taxes," said a woman who lives aboard a much smaller boat moored at the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina.
Romney's Cayman-based investments have come under fire during the campaign.
The event, attended by no more than 50 people, along with Romney relatives, including older brother Scott, appeared on no public calendars. ABC News obtained a schedule of the Romney campaign's "Victory Council" and waited dockside to speak with members.
"It was a really nice event. These are good supporters," said billionaire Wilbur Ross, an energy industry executive.

Good information, thank you!
Probably a Heinz Ketchup flag!
I think Willard is an elitest with a liberal record but I see this issue as a non-starter. So what?
I don’t hate him, I’m just not willing to pretend he is something he is not simply because he’s the Republican nominee now.
It’s pretty sad that typical liberal shaming tactics are tolerated on pretty much every single thread though. We should be better than that, accusing people of hatred simply because they don’t agree with someone or hold a contrary opinion of them.
The guy lives in Florida. What’s illegal about it?
No, it's registered in the Caymans. I looked it up. I thought it was Bermuda, too, but I was wrong.
You are right.
I apologize.
Good catch!
It is the Bermuda flag on the yacht, not the Cayman flag.
Does this mean Romney has offshore accounts in Bermuda as well?
Or is ABC using some hidden coded language in this reporting?
It’s been said multiple times that the owner of the yacht is an American that lives in Florida, including the article.
1. Why is flying the flag of a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic different to flying the flag of a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean?
2. You are wrong. The Bermuda flag is a simple charge on the shield. The Cayman Island flag has a Red Ordinaire in Chief (the band at the top for those in Rio Linda)
It is a smart thing to do. I have a buddy with a 125 ft yacht and it’s flagged out of the US.
People go to Wal-Mart all day long and buy Chinese crap. That bugs me more than this stupid story.
Be careful, it is presumptive of piracy to dsiplay a flag other than the registered flag of the vessel.
1) It is the Bahamas, not the Caymans, f you
2) It is not Romney’s boat, f you
3) Why don’t you cover Kerry’s boat registered in a lower-tax state? f you
4) We are 16 trillion in debt, we have a radical communist as a president, we are about to lose the greatest nation ever, can you please pull your stoned head out of your liberal ass and report on something important? f you
It’s registered in the Caymans... Google it.
It’s flying the red Caymans flag instead of the blue one. Looks like Bermuda.
Is this any different than Obama going to Martha’s Vineyard for a month of vacation? Or going to some swanky apartment in Manhattan to a fundraiser? Or going to Tuscany to a fund raiser hosted by George Looney?
Definitely Cayman registry.
I retract my earlier post.
