I come from the perspective that slavery was an abominable institution and would have ended eventually anyway, as it did in ever other western, civilized nation.

Baloney. Under the guise of state rights, the Confederacy seceded and went to war over the notion that they had the God-given right to enslave human beings for economic advantage. The Confederacy went to war to defend its social and economic system in perpetuity, not to have the fruits of their toil - if successful - wither on the vine in a few years. Yours is wishful thinking; you're applying modern sentiments and sensibilities to a 19th century issue.

Keeping in mind that the war was NOT fought to free slaves — and that by forcing “free” men of the South to be slaves to a union — there is NO moral high ground to be claimed...unless you believe there is nobility in freeing black people while enslaving white people.

No rhetorical trick of yours can ever equate the "slavery" of being governed by a federal government to actual "slavery," in which one race of human being is considered chattel by another - actual property - and is denied the basic human rights granted to them by God. Cut out the awkward, self-serving attempts to do so.

God was watching, and you were on the wrong side. The end.

Why do you keep declaring the “end” after making false statements?

I didn’t say anything about WHY the Confederacy seceded. I maintain, as any reasonable thinking person would, that slavery would have ended under its own weight EVENTUALLY...whether the Southern states were part of the union or a confederacy. You have to be a southernphobe to think for a minute that they would continue to exist as the only civilized nation in the western hemisphere to allow slavery. It defies logic. Just as the nation was able to change the Constitution to allow women to vote (just one example), slavery too would have changed, given enough time.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your juvenile and ignorant perspective falls apart when you realize that the Union operated under the belief that there was a “God-given right to enslave human beings for economic advantage” for seven decades before the Confederacy ever existed. And whine all you want, but the truth remains — while you can argue that the war was fought BECAUSE of the slave issue, NO ONE can make the argument that war was declared so as to FREE the slaves. It just did not happen that way.

Get over yourself. Being wrong is one thing, being stupid about it is not a way of life one should choose willingly.
