Condoleezza Rice calls for a ‘compassionate’ immigration policy

Wait a minute, was this the GOP or Democrat convention?

"We must continue to welcome the world's most ambitious people to be a part of us. In that way we stay young and optimistic and determined,"

Immigration policies used to be that the legal, orderly that queued in line were ambitious, had sponsors (family, neighbors, community, church/temple), had jobs, determined to assimilate the American dream, the American culture. Those immigrants revitalized our society/culture, bringing new creative ideas, a hunger for the 'pursuit of happiness'.

Nowadays, (due to the Kennedy quotas' initiatives) immigration is offered to the dumb, dependent, depressed and Democrat. The 'pursuit of happiness' has evolved to represent 'what can you do for Meeeeeeee.

I really wish she would just come out and say “let the illegal aliens stay” and be done with it.

What is compassionate about letting in unlimited Mexicans while keeping out hard-working Filipinos, Chinese, Australians, etc?

Is that compassion, or racism? I vote Door Number 2...

She say anything about the other 98% creeping across our borders and into the welfare lines?

“And on a personal note—a little girl grows up in Jim Crow Birmingham—the most segregated big city in America—her parents can’t take her to a movie theater or a restaurant—but they make her believe that even though she can’t have a hamburger at the Woolworth’s lunch counter—she can be President of the United States and she becomes the Secretary of State. “

All before the feds got their paws on k-12 education.

She spoke at length about ambitious people, the kind who enter the tech industry which she referenced specifically. No remark was made about illegal aliens; these remarks were clearly about legal immigrants. H1-B visa-types, high-skilled workers.

Obviously, some commenters have goon off half-cocked because of "compassion" but the racism and misogyny I've come to expect in Condi threads hasn't really shown its ugly mug.

We need to get our immigration system under control .We’re not able to absorb the numbers of legal and illegal’s that are coming into this country and it’s ruining this society.

Guess what, Condi fans? Chrissy Matthews agrees with YOU!

The compassionate policy would be one that does not reward criminals and terrorists over taxpayer and those immigrants who want to enter legally. Also it would not admit those immigrants who will end up on welfare or take away jobs from us.

A compassionate policy would start deporting illegal aliens and thus protect the best interests of this country.
