The point of the speeches was to get to the 5% of the voters that count—The Independents—the ONLY voters that count...not you or even the base:
1. Independents don’t want ‘attack”... they want pragmatism.
2. Independents and especially those that voted for Obama before want to know its ok to change their minds. They are not angry about Obama like we are, they are sad that it didn’t work out. We need those votes.
3. Anyone who does not see Obama as a socialist or lawless will not be changed in one night...they need to be told what they feel already, the economy is not working and we need a different , more pragmatic approach.
I have heard that argument and it does have it’s merits however given that the base is really not that thrilled with Romney to begin with..they could at least get someone up there to throw us some red meat for crying out loud.
Especially after what they did yesterday with the tyrannical rules change. They are going to run off the only folks out here that can actually get them elected. What good does it do to get some independents if you lose twice as many conservatives at the same time?
I hope Ryan can save this thing tonight. So far the whole thing has been underwhelming.
