TAMPA, Fla. -- Yahoo News has fired Washington bureau chief David Chalian after he was caught on a hot-mic during an online video broadcast today saying that Mitt Romney and his wife Ann had no problem with African Americans suffering as a result of Hurricane Isaac, a source familiar with the situation tells POLITICO.
"They're not concerned at all. They're happy to have a party with black people drowning," Chalian said during the ABC News/Yahoo News webcast, in reference to the fact that the GOP convention in Tampa is taking place as Hurricane Isaac makes landfall on the north Gulf coast.
The conservative media watchdog organization NewsBusters first posted audio of Chalian's remarks, but referred to him as an ABC News employee (and offered slightly inaccurate transcription). ABC News spokesperson Julie Townsend informed the organization that Chalian was with Yahoo.
Chalian and Yahoo News spokesperson Kristen Morquecho did not respond to requests for comment; Townsend also did not respond to a request for comment. (ABC News, where Chalian was political director until 2010, has partnered with Yahoo News for 2012 political coverage).
UPDATE (1:30 p.m.): Yahoo News confirms:
"David Chalian's statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters
and anyone who was offended."
I’ll bet Chrissy Matthews has already emailed David Chalian, asking for a current copy of his resume’ and about his availability.
Wow. That’s unusually on the ball for Yahoo. (A website that publishes articles about cool pictures and videos without having said pictures or videos or even links to them. Seriously, that’s a problem they have about once every two weeks!)
Has anyone of any color drowned in this storm?
And what exactly is Romney supposed to do to respond to the storm?
Nothing but Katrina redux. Sorry Chalian, but we’re all Katrina’d out. Besides, obama’s out campaigning.
What is wrong with these flippin’ idiots? It is raining, do only blacks drown or something? I know I have put my life on hold because it is raining in Louisiana >S<
Ha!, you beat me too it.
There are currently no reported US fatalities from Isaac. Fox reports 24 dead in Haiti and 5 in Dominican Republic.
The crazy thing? Liberals like David Chalian really and truly believe what he said. Liberals are so deceived, they are so invested in their religion of Liberalism, that they have lost all ability to reason and think critically.
David Chalian simply got caught at what the corrupt MSM unceasingly messages every day. The only difference is that the corrupt MSM are smart enough to have developed plausible deniability. David Chalian spoke for his brethren in the MSM.
Yahoo! has an unusually strong conservative following. Their comments are a hoot!
Soon to be hired by MSDNC...
Just the left pulling the racist stereotype card.
What a surprise - Yahoo News is some of the most leftist there is.
Yahoo!News fires David Chalian
He’ll never work in this business again... wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more... what a POS cesspool of Demonic Party-loving perverts.
“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”
To bad the rest of the MSM wasn't so responsive. But there wouldn't be anyone left now would there.
I smell panic of the side of the left. They know there wonder boy is going down in flames.
