Yahoo News has fired Washington bureau chief David Chalian after he was caught on a hot-mic during an online video broadcast today saying that Mitt Romney and his wife Ann had no problem with African Americans suffering as a result of Hurricane Isaac, a source familiar with the situation tells POLITICO.
"They're not concerned at all. They're happy to have a party with black people drowning," Chalian said during the ABC News/Yahoo News webcast, in reference to the fact that the GOP convention in Tampa is taking place as Hurricane Isaac makes landfall on the north Gulf coast.
The conservative media watchdog organization NewsBusters first posted audio of Chalian's remarks, but referred to him as an ABC News employee (and offered slightly inaccurate transcription). ABC News spokesperson Julie Townsend informed the organization that Chalian was with Yahoo.
Chalian and Yahoo News spokesperson Kristen Morquecho did not respond to requests for comment; Townsend also did not respond to a request for comment. (ABC News, where Chalian was political director until 2010, has partnered with Yahoo News for 2012 political coverage).
UPDATE (1:30 p.m.): Yahoo News confirms:
"David Chalian's statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended."
What’s this assclown’s previous propaganda workpieces?
I’m shocked too.
Yahoo has news ?
He was only fired because he was caught.
lol. Well that is how it works. Most people don’t get fired until they do something. You obviously don’t run a company. You can’t just go around firing people without cause.
He was a fired failing to allow his employer to maintain plausible deniability. You can be as biased a lefty as you want, so long as you at least pay lip service to operating with professional detachment.
Goodness I was just about to respond to that post with the same comment. The Yahoo comment section is pure deliciousness.
:)
David Chalian produced Charlie Gibson’s interview with Sarah Palin. Hmm....
I have to say, I’m surprised. Yahoo news doesn’t exactly seem “fair and balanced.”
“Yahoo News spokesperson Kristen Morquecho “
What kind of a social disease it a “morequecho?”
Well now I know why this guy sounded like a girl on that audio.
And no one should give Yahoo ANY credit. The clown only got caught. Yahoo knew this comment was made Monday Night, he should have been fired 7:00AM yesterday. Only after going viral do they pull the trigger.
by next week he will be hosting a show on msnbc
And you obviously don’t know your memes.
by next week he will be hosting a show on msnbc
Cool!
He certainly is on a downward spiral of a career path. ABC> Yahoo> May I super size that?
Call me jaded but I don’t believe Yahoo! did this just because they thought it was the right thing to do. Either he stepped on the wrong toes and someone saw an opportunity for payback or Yahoo! was told by another party to get rid of him.
same here
Liberals like David Chalian really and truly believe what he said. Liberals are so deceived, they are so invested in their religion of Liberalism, that they have lost all ability to reason and think critically.
David Chalian simply got caught at what the corrupt MSM unceasingly messages every day. The only difference is that the corrupt MSM are smart enough to have developed plausible deniability. David Chalian spoke for his brethren in the MSM.
I think, what was meant though, is that whoever hired him knew what they were getting but when it went out over the air he was fired. He was fired in other words because Yahoo! got caught.
