I live in California, have children and precious pets to protect — and know how to fire a handgun and rifle — well.

There would have been nothing to arrest if he’d broken into my home and tried to kidnap my daughter!!

This mother would have screamed all over the place - “He said he was going to rape and kill me and my daughter!!!”

(do you think that would have worked? This IS California, after all!!).

I think that would work even in Calif.

I suggest you upgrade your pets to ones that protect you.

“I was in fear for my (our) life, I’d like to speak to an attorney.”

Don’t say anything else.

In CA, and yes I live here also, you are certainly allowed to shoot someone who breaks into your home. Just make sure they are inside and drop them in their tracks. Outside is not allowed unless they are actually holding a gun on you and then that is not always a certainty.
