The World of Rhetoric is a beautiful place filled with song birds and tasty fruits. All of us go there from time to time. Some try and live there.
As far as controlling the international drug cartels goes it is not a unique Mexican failure by a long shot. And you know the source of their power.
The Mafia operated with little check in this country for close to a century and has only been given pause after the passage of the RICO act forty yrs ago. It took a prosecutor like Rudy Guiliani (roundly hated here) to effectively use it to put thousands, that’s right THOUSANDS, of Mobsters behind bars.
These drug cartels almost always have more money than the police agencies and are better armed in many cases. Mexico has a more legitimate complaint against US in this matter than we them. After all it is the demand by US citizens for drugs which pours billions into these gangs coffers on a yearly basis. The Disaster giving them guns didn’t help matters either.
There have been thousands of brave Mexican police, military, reporters, prosecutors, Judges, even a Cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church killed by these gangs when they were threatened with exposure and prosecution. You literally take your life in your hands if you decide to take these gangs on.
There is no way this situation gets better if the U.S. stands aside or pulls its Ambassador.
And one more thing:
There is only one way to eliminate the evil drug culture once and for all, because after all the market for narcotics is user driven.
The penalty for selling or using should be death, ala Singapore. No drug problem there.
