Romney says abortion legal for mother's health DONNA CASSATA August 27, 2012 6:43 PM EDT Copyright 2012 Lubbock Online. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Republican Mitt Romney says he is in favor of abortion in cases of rape, incest and thehealth and life of the mother.
The presidential candidate's addition of the health of the mother is certain to raise questions about Romney'sposition among conservatives. Health can be broadly defined and, in fact, running mate Paul Ryan has challenged the health exception as a major loophole.
Romney commented in an interview Monday with CBS News. The network released Romney's comments before its evening broadcast.
Romney's position on abortion rights has evolved. When he ran for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, he backed abortion rights. As a presidential candidate, he has opposed abortion rights and says the Supreme Court should reverse the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

There is no one in the life versus abortion debate who doesn't understand this is a different issue than the life of the mother.
So, when Romney juxtaposes "life" with "health" and uses them both together, he is either totally ignorant -- which he isn't -- or he is allowing a loophole big enough to drive all of planned parenthood through.
Intentionally
It is not ok for the health of the mother. Good Lord what a crock. This guy sucks more and more daily! Any mother who kills their own child to save their own is a selfish person.
i dont understand the argument
if the mothers health is in peril, of course you can have an abortion- what are you going to do? force a women to die to keep her baby (if she doesnt want to?)
I may be as pro-life as possible but I am not going to be stupid about it
Did Mitt just up the ante?
Or
Was he totally stupid
My money is on he’s trying to cover all the bases so he allows everything.
Let’s look at our scorecard: Romneycare, gay couples, gay adoption, gay boy scouts, gun control, abortion for “health” of mother, the biggest loophole of them all. Add to that “tax code ‘revenue enhancers’”.
If it weren’t so bad already, I’d say it was getting worse.
What it’s getting is what WE, THE RESISTANCE, predicted. NOT what the ABOs predicted.
Abortion is currently legal for mother's health, wealth, whim, folly, coin flipping or mood.
THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. This is such an idiotic circular firing squad.
Since the law isn’t about to change, Romney should shut up.
Tell the reporter, The “rape & incest” meme, is a red herring, never before proposed in legislation, so there’s no point in debating a fraudulent position.”

How anout that Romeny is a Full Fledged Baby Killer!

Everyone knows that “life of mother” and “health of mother” are separate discussions in the debate.
Health of mother includes psychology, “I don’t ‘feel’ like it”, and the common cold and sniffles.
He is playing for winner takes all stakes. This goes back to the sixties. He is looking at burying conservatives forever, and raising himself as the new benchmark. This is the culmination of a counter-Reagan revolution that began on January 20, 1989.
Romney is telegraphing what he personally believes.
He’s pro-life when it’s convenient and not when it’s not. Do you think it’s the 3-million dollars that PP is pouring into anti-Mitt advertising that caused him to suddenly feel for the woman with health issues (runny nose, backache, etc.)? He is so full of malarkey, but very predictable.
He should say what Ronald Reagan said, as he persuaded America: “If we have questions whether we are dealing with life, then we should err on the side of life.”
Why the h#ll is anyone surprised?
C’mon, mkjessup.
He SAID it.
That required no mind-reading on my part.
He said it. He’s telegraphing his beliefs.
I’m not surprised, svcw.
With this “health” loophold, he has permitted every single abortion imaginable.
We’re only awaiting his endorsing the “paid by our tax dollars ‘on demand’” exclusion. /s
