Romney says abortion legal for mother's health DONNA CASSATA August 27, 2012 6:43 PM EDT Copyright 2012 Lubbock Online. All rights reserved. (AP) Republican Mitt Romney says he is in favor of abortion in cases of rape, incest and thehealth and life of the mother.
The presidential candidate's addition of the health of the mother is certain to raise questions about Romney'sposition among conservatives. Health can be broadly defined and, in fact, running mate Paul Ryan has challenged the health exception as a major loophole.
Romney commented in an interview Monday with CBS News. The network released Romney's comments before its evening broadcast.
Romney's position on abortion rights has evolved. When he ran for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, he backed abortion rights. As a presidential candidate, he has opposed abortion rights and says the Supreme Court should reverse the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

“How many million partial birth abortions will your tax dollars pay for in an Obama second term?”
Please explain why a partial birth abortion is deadlier than a first trimester abortion or a women who murders her baby with a morning after pill?
I guess you missed it when Romney said the health of the mother meant Ronald Reagan was pro-choice because the dems in California took health of the mother to mean anything and were able to increase the number of abortions exponentially. For example, morning sickness and mental stress would be reasons to kill the baby.
Romney has always been pro-abort/pro-choice and he still is, no matter what twisted grouping of words comes out of his mouth. Health of the mother has always been the democrats Trojan Horse.
and as for pregnancy after rape- well that is just stupid-
take a large dose of birth control pills immediately and you will not become pregnant
THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR DECADES and should make abortion totally unnecessary.
So if a pregnant mother had say three other kids at home under the age of ten she was caring for and according to several doctors the current pregnancy due to complications will end her life she should just deal with it. Those three kids can go without their mother as well as the new baby. Insane. But I’m sure you think that’s what god wants.
We have 3 kids under 7. The third pregnancy was very tough and my wife almost died in childbirth. We won’t be having more kids. If my wife somehow gets pregnant we can’t risk her life. Sorry. Our three young kids need their mother.
Don’t let the “perfect” be the enemy of the good. And please no religious responses. Nothing you say could possibly sway me. I’m pro- life but their are extremely rare exceptions.
Well, according to some on this thread---yes, that's exactly what you do.
That's a really great question.
If Obama appoints another judge, will they overturn Roe v. Wade?
Will they think like Sandra Fluke that not only is contraception a human right, but that we should all pay for it through taxes, and next of course, that abortion is a woman's human right to kill her child and thus, we should all pay for any kind....including partial birth abortion.
You're saying that this RINO man here has sinned, therefore, run headlong into the arms of the Marxist Devil!
Yep, here it comes. Fifty dollar or free abortions for everyone, all paid for by the US taxpayers.
Correction: According to numbers Reagan saved more than 100,000 babies per year by the end of his administration.
I am not a doctor so I don't know for sure if a situation still exists where a choice like this would have to be made...
but I don't think anyone should be forced to give up their life for their children's if they don't want to.
But that is as far as I am willing to go when it comes to abortion.
Yeah, Cause a RINO like Mittens is just full of great judge appointees.
“Stop. From what I read, the campaign released a clarification about this statement, and it DID NOT include the controversial health language.” This punk is on Obama’s payroll like the rest of them. Their mission is to pick off the dim-witted amongst us. They are very sophisticated crew working under multiply names out of a small windowless office in Naperville, Ill.
That's a really great question.
If Obama appoints another judge, will they overturn Roe v. Wade?
If Mittens appoints another judge like every judge he's already appointed, will they overturn Roe v. Wade?
Oh, states rights.......
” If you were a false screen name for Axelrod,”
You’ve GOT to be kidding.
My wife had a horrid pregancy with number four. Doctors said it would be Downs or wife may die etc. Guess what? Wife is still with us....my child has zero defects. I trust in God way more than trusting in some doctor who gets it wrong half the time. Your principles need to be checked because you are so wrong on this. Killing your baby is nuts and you advocate it. How sad for you and your kids.
You're right, of course.
I'm as pro-life as the Pope, and it's obvious to me that overturning Obamacare should be our primary goal at this point. Obamacare expands abortion funding and will increase the number of abortions.
Romney has promised to repeal Obamacare.
If you hate abortion, defeat Obama and repeal Obamacare.
Eradicate Obama's pro-death plan before it's too late, because his socialist program will perpetuate and normalize abortion, euthanasia and denial of medical care via death panels.
See what I mean? These commie libs want us to support Obama! You are the lowest life form on this planet. They prey on the weakest among us. Yea, Romney and Robert Bork vs Obama and Holder, same thing, right? No they are not. Beware of the LIARS!!!
I’ve had conversations with Catholic apologists affirming the moral defensibility of taking steps to protect your own life even if it resulted in the death/abortion of the fetus. From the Catholic perspective there is no obligation to put the baby’s life ahead of your own, though it would be commendable to do so.
