I would agree that Akin’s remarks were so toxic— that is for everyone but me apparently. In years of my life after WWII I have heard many foolish/stupid political remarks so I must be immune from toxic statements by politicians and others. There has been so much blabber over the years about abortion, start of life/humans, woman’s right to choose, etc, etc, etc, that what has developed is that the issue(s?) are what anyone wants to make of them. I don’t give Akins credit for much smarts even though he raised a very down to earth trditional USA family. I don’t give Romney, Palin and other politicians any credit for how to handle a person making arguable comments and wonder about their ability to understand and deal with crisis. Frankly I care more about what people intend to do to the USA then what or why people want to twist the issue of abortion for any purpose. People will do what they want to do one way or another.

I fully agree with you. The whole issue is about #84 on my priority list, but for a lot of people on both sides of the debate it’s not only #1, it’s #only.
