so it isnt a matter of the seat being unwinnable, this is something far more, it is ideological.
They are more afraid of his statement being tied to the other candidates. So, even if he is tied in MO, if they support him, it might hurt Brown in MA. Also, they made a threat, an ill-considered threat, but now they have to stick with it. These things don't happen in a vacuum. BTW, I don't approve of the RNC reaction, but I understand it.

You overestimate the national impact of this comment.
State elections are State elections and each has their own dynamic.
You don't pull the plug on a State that is winnable.
