Fresh from the 2010 Tea Party wave that brought millions of new conservative voters into the Republican ranks and restored the GOP to control of the House of Representatives, Washingtons Republican political class is wasting no time in ensuring that the same grassroots conservative voters who have brought them to the threshold of capturing all three branches of government are permanently frozen out of influence in the Republican Party apparatus.
In response, grassroots conservatives have launched an unprecedented Rules fight that threatens to up-end the carefully choreographed coronation of Mitt Romney.
The Rules Committee report, which is set to be adopted Tuesday, includes Rules changes that shift the balance of power away from state and local Republican committees, who elect delegates to the National Convention every four years, in favor of DCs permanent political class.
The Rules changes would:
Principled conservative Republican Party leaders Morton Blackwell of Virginia and Jim Bopp of Indiana are spearheading the drive to gather the votes necessary to adopt a Minority Rules Report and defeat the proposed rules changes on the floor during Tuesdays procedural sessions.

Indianas National Committeeman, James Bopp, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Republican National Committee, said in an email to delegates, This is the biggest power grab in the history of the Republican Party because it shifts the power to select delegates from the state party to the candidate. And it would make the Republican Party a top down, not bottom up party.
Virginias Morton Blackwell, a member of the Republican National Committees Standing Committee on Rules and on the National Convention's Committee on Rules and Order of Business said these are rules changes that could fundamentally change our Republican Party -- and not for the better.
Blackwell noted that DC election lawyer Ben Ginsberg brought these proposals to the Rules Committee where he represented himself as the leader on the Committee for the Romney Campaign.
Ginsberg, Blackwell observed, had earlier this year worked for conservative Congresswoman Michele Bachmanns presidential campaign, is unencumbered by principle. After working for Bachmanns grassroots campaign he is advocating Rules that would centralize power, restrain and eliminate grassroots influence and create a top-down, rather than bottom-up Party the very antithesis of what allowed a candidate like Michele Bachmann to run, said Blackwell.
RNC Vice Chairman Bopp dismissed any notion that the Rules changes had an ideological motivation, noting that they represent a threat to both moderates and conservatives who could be purged, depending on who is the Republican Presidential nominee and that to preserve the bottom-up nature of the Party the issues raised should be taken care of by changes to state laws and state GOP rules governing the selection of their states delegates to the national convention.
To oppose this power grab by Washingtons permanent political class grassroots GOP activists must shine the light of day on this behind the scenes power grab; call your Republican National Convention delegates, blog about, email it to your friends and contacts, post it on your Facebook page and social media sites and call your local and national conservative talk radio programs.
Obama may be a clown; but it is simply ridiculous to lay the decline of the country at his feet. There are simply far too many involved for it to be laid at a single person's feet. -- Take the budget, it's Congress's responsibility [and legal obligation] to pass a budget, not the President's.
At the end of the day, most of the ills in our country can be traced to one thing: lack of moral character. As a country we are severely morally depraved. Elsewise, how could the wholesale slaughter of innocent babies, infanticide, be condoned? And yet it is, abortion has taken the lives of dozens of millions of citizens... yet we-as-a-nation allow it. Indeed, many justify not violently opposing it because it's the law. IOW, they justify themselves by the law yet fail to recognize that that "law" does not actually exist: it is a fabrication made of whole cloth handed out from the Supreme Court. The same sort of justification is applied to many Drug Laws, relying ultimately on precedent of Prohibition cases (or, perhaps, the "commerce clause") -- yet those should be invalid as the 21st amendment was a complete repeal of the 18th amendment.
In short: we have the president we deserve: a man of no great character.
And you are advising voting for another man of no great character, one whose words carry less weight than air, to displace the current?
What sense is there in that?
No! What an absurd and horridly tyrannical idea: "he grants"!?
So the Soverign States must beg relief from the Federal President who grants them leave to not abide by a clearly contraconstitutional law?
He will take down the Regulatory burdens to real energy development.
He will fire the unconstitutional czars.
Romney will stop federally funded abortion.
I don't really believe any of that. Most of the regulatory burdens are in place due to Congress: it's their responsibility to remove those burdens -- to do otherwise (via executive order) is nothing less than to advocate for MORE non-/selective-enforcement of laws: just like immigration laws! The Czars aren't in any power that the Congress didn't let them have {congress can investigate/impeach} -- in fact, it allows them [govt in general] to have convenient 'fall guys' for the implementation of unpopular/questionable policies.
As for Romney stopping federally funded abortion -- I simply do not believe that he can do that*: it is congress that makes the budget.
*There are things he can do that involve the enforcement of laws that he could use to punish abortion (like ordering DOJ to prosecute cross-state-line abortions as murder); but I don't see him making such a controversial" move.
He wont be looking for opportunities to enrich the union thugs, in or out of government.
But will he be willing to cut down the thug that is the Union?
He WILL respect the Constitutional constraints and separation of powers.
Most of the stuff you've spouted off as reason to vote for him is violative of the separation of powers.
So, some of the areas where he and I disagree, I dont believe we have to worry about the House and Senate supporting him on.
I would hope so; but then I have a very low opinion of the Congress. They ought to be tried for malfeasance and more.
Apology accepted.
What is “knock this veal off”? Is that a new expression? Did you mean to say “deal”?
I wasn’t sure if you were saying something friendly or unfriendly

I’m Pissed !!!

I WILL NOT SUPPORT ROMNEY (who is an Obama twin).
He also ain’t got a chance, and is putting any kind of victory for conservatives no matter how small in jepertiy out of spite.
I’m not entirely sure how you can respect a man who is willing to loses it all because he can’t win it all. Men will never be able to win it all and if you can’t take what you can get you wont get anything at all.
What choice do we have? We can’t rebel & reclaim our rights until we can shut down the Federal military, because right now that military machine has its knife at our throats.
Either act as Washington’s slave playing its rigged game or die. We need a strategy to reclaim our liberty, we need the means to resist and tear them down from the outside because we will never get them to give up power.
That means defanging Washington, and giving our States teeth. Why our States you ask? Simple, our States like Washington are run by power hungry politicians, that can be motivated to fight for more power, but unlike Washington they don’t currently hold the dominate position and even if they did we as individuals would be able to vote among them not only with a stronger ballot but most importantly of all as individuals(the ultimate minority) with out feet.
This is a game of strategy, right now the field is against us, the Federal courts have claimed the final word, and they are of course all hand picked by the same power hungry Federal Leviathan that has usurped our rights in the first place.
The Field has been rigged by Washington against us, so we must change that field. The easiest and most direct way to do that is to disarm the monster So that when push comes to shove we can say no and force them to risk everything in Civil War to shove their lawless will down our throats.
The idea being they will be disinclined to take such a risk often or for light matters, and completely unable to do so without the support of many other states.
that’s the least of our concerns, our Founders had more important things to worry about or they would have made it illegal then, can’t you see our Country is going to hell in a hand basket?
yep! some food for thought.
“Since its creation in 1913, the Federal Reserve (the FED) has presided over a 98% decline in the dollar’s purchasing power” ~ Ron Paul

There was a conservative / constitutionalist movement? Since when? Join the the real world. You won’t look so foolish.
It is my vote, and if you don't like it....
then it sucks to be you

The Age of Pericles. A beautiful sentiment to be able to see growth and freedom and our enemies vanquished. Sic Semper Tyrannis. And we all know who is the tyrant. Deo Vindice.
and your misstatement of my hate for Romney, I don't don't hate anyone.
I hate being lied to, or some POS Politician telling me that crap sandwich is a 7 course meal.
And BTW
1976-1980 USMC
1980-1996 USN

Yea I sick to death of these crap politicians.
Thanks for your service
None of this really matters, what is unofficially written in the republican party platform has always been meaningless.
The policy followed has always been what the current present and congress could agree to with predominance of influence in the president.
Wait, what? -- I don't think I've said anything to characterize patriotism one way or the other of anybody on this thread. -- In post #89 I was saying that I'm not sure that Romney isn't a greater danger than Obama, and some of the reasoning behind that evaluation, a mere difference of opinion.
Thanks for your service!
You're welcome; but I don't recall having mentioned that I'd served on this thread.
misstated from another thread, my apologies. It was to someone else, but thanks all the same.
Good reasoning! Re-elect Obama because Romney annoys you. Duh!
