Nye said that while many adults may believe in creationism, children should be taught evolution in order to understand science. Absent a grasp of evolution, he said, “You’re just not going to get the right answers.” ******

I wonder what right answers Nye might be concerned about? Are these to questions concerning human behavior and accountability. We've tried the evolutionary answers for the better part of the past century and all we have to show for these right answers are moral apathy, confusion, cultural rot and a potpourri of half-baked belief systems.

In it Nye said widespread public doubt in the scientific concept of evolution — which holds that human beings and all other forms of life developed from a process of random genetic mutation and natural selection — would hinder a country long renowned for its innovation, intellectual capital and a general grasp of science.

“When you have a portion of the population that doesn’t believe in (evolution) it holds everybody back, really,” he said.

Oh sure. We’d never have invented stuff like the steam engine, the telephone, and the light bulb if we had all believed that God created living things like the Bible says.

We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future.

Say, Bill, what's your view on AGW and the 'scientific method' used to develop the models?

I am homeschooling my kids, and I am teaching my kids about Evolution, and also that I believe that it probably went down something like that. So on FR, I would be called an evolutionist.

Many of the people in my area believe in creationism, so I am also teaching my kids about ID, even a little about Genesis, although I dont endorse it, I think it would be nice for him to know.

It hasn't hurt him one bit, and he "gets" it. I can't see how its harmful. So bill nye is being stupid.

I still dont care for Creationism to be taught in public schools, though it probably deserves a mention.

“Nye said that while many adults may believe in creationism, children should be taught evolution in order to understand science”

Well..let's see if belief in evolution is really important to the understanding of science by looking at some notable scientific accomplishments.

Landing on the moon, development of the internet, the discovery of sub-atomic particles, landing machines on Mars.....belief in evolution played no part in these scientific, technological accomplishments...no part.

Going back a bit.... Understanding blood circulation, discovery of antibiotics, Mendel's understanding of heredity, discoveries in electricity and magnetism, gravity, development of the internal combustion engine, electronics....

Evolutionary theory? Completely irrelevant to the major scientific developments that we take for granted today.

46 percent of Americans can be described as creationists for believing that God created humans in their present form at some point within the last 10,000 years.

Many creationists unfortunately believe not just humans, but the entire universe.

For homeschool parents’ consideration if they use Bill Nye to supplement science.

Absent a grasp of evolution, he said, “You’re just not going to get the right answers.”

Well that all depends on whose book is supplying the questions, doesn't it?

What about the “scientifically literate” people that reject evolution and - gasp! - believe in creationism?

Oh, yes. I remember now. They lose their teaching or research jobs and prestige schools try to revoke their credentials. I guess creationism must be like a disease that the herd must be isolated from or it will spread.

When you google "Bill Nye the Science Guy" google's suggested completion is "Bill Nye the Science Guy dead."

This (science) guy is so far off people's radar screens that they assume he's dead and the only publicity he's gotten apart from the death rumor is this evolution stuff.

So of course he's going to go on talking about it. It's the only way he can think of to say, "Hey, people, I'm still here! I'm still alive! And I'm still relevant! Somehow ..."

Nye is basically saying to parents "cede the moral upbringing of your children to the state, and allow amoral, secular science to assume responsibility for programming your offspring..."

What an Unamerican, science-worshipping scumbag! Nye should be censured and repudiated for such ridiculous, asinine statements. His conceit and arrogance are truly breathtaking, as well as extremely dangerous...

Hey Bill, ya smarmy pointy headed intellectual...

How do you know that the engineering crew from some Vulcan Starship didn’t come down for a little R and R, and do up a bunch of Neanderthal babes?

Evolution sounds great!

But....um...before we get to the discussion of evolution...where did all of the stuff that evolved come from?

Please do tell, if a single cell organism evolved into a higher life form, where did the single cell organism come from in the first place?

And where did it find a place to evolve if the earth wasn't already here?

And if the earth evolved from cosmic dust, particles, etc. where did the cosmic dust, particles and etc. come from to begin with?
