Like a lot of cable hosts, Matthews is in love with the sound of his own voice, and the guests are really there less for their responses or opinions than to give him someone to talk to.

Quite true, but it should be to give him someone to talk at" -- or "shout at."

Moreover, the exchange was so uncomfortable the "Morning Joe" team turned it into a big joke, losing any content or context in the legitimate questions Matthews raised.

Not like there was very much there to lose. Or more likely, Matthews himself lost the content or context and any legitimacy when he started to hector and badger Priebus.

A wiser host -- maybe one less biased, but certainly one with some brains -- could have made his points and left them for the audience to consider without trying to bludgeon his guest with them.

Matthews is evil. Around this time in 2004 he beat up Michelle Malkin on Hard Ball. He's supposed to be throwing the "hard ball" not beating girls with the bat. Among other things Michelle was trying to speak for the Swift Boat Veterans. Chris would not let her finish a sentence.

I'd watched him fairly regularly prior to that. Never again. Yes, he did sub for Rush back in the 90s and he was very good. He later got an injection of the dumbass that he never recovered from.
