Workers at a Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Tennessee have opted to trade a paid Labor Day holiday for the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
A 5-year contract approved by members of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union at the Shelbyville, Tenn., plant last November includes the change to accommodate Muslim workers.

Yes, came across my desktop this AM.
On the interwebs nothing ever really dies...
Thank you for clearing that up. I searched and found no collaborating sources.
Fox should be ashamed and post a retraction
Hell, just about every day that ends in Y is a federal holiday
Is it any wonder they call it, “Faux News”?
Well this was the SECOND SENTENCE in the release:
Tyson does NOT offer its workers a paid Muslim holiday at any location.
Are you saying they are lying?
Now I must make another Mea Culpa.
I just noticed the date of publication as 2008. Maybe Fox did indeed report that the effort failed.
Why the hell did you post this?

GAH! I missed that.
This has long day written all over it.
Under further review, it is the poster, null and void, who should be slapped around.
I have asked Tyson more questions because I remember there was a walkout or something similar. Muslims had made demands and non muslim workers walked off. Let me look for that article.
Keep reading, see post#61.

Agreed.
Yes....and I dutifully queued up.
Apology accepted (and offered).
You and I should just slink away.
I can't quite bring myself to disagree with you on that one either...
What? And miss all the fun?
Definitely not any more - at least not at the plant 3 miles from my house, which is their largest on the East coast. I know this because I applied for a job there.
Now, the contractors who grow the chickens are an entirely different story. The contract farmers I know are pretty picky, but we all know of others who do use illegals - which are plentiful in this county.
OK....I'll hit reload a few times and see how you are holding up. :o)

The Tyson plant generated national controversy when it dropped Labor Day as a paid holiday in favor of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.
The decision was later reversed,
Some companies give you an option when it comes to holidays. Lets face it, some countries don’t celebrate our holidays and if they do it may be on a different day. It’s the same as if we worked overseas.
I worked for a Canadian company and they celebrate Boxing Day (day after Christmas) and it was a paid holiday. We did not complain because we got two days off for Christmas instead of one.
They actually said it in the second sentence
” Contrary to recently circulated reports, Tyson does NOT offer its workers a paid Muslim holiday at any location.”
Well i posted their website for all. They need to pay where it counts. The bottom line. Let them sell all their chickens in Michigan.
