This time it's Joan Vennochi, one of the Boring Broadsheet's "paralyzing snoremongers," to use Tom Wolfe's phrase.
The wrinkly longtime pom-pom gal for the Democrat party has been suspended for two weeks for "use of material without attribution (which) was inconsistent with Globe policies and the Globe regrets the error."
In other words, plagiarism, or, to continue the Globe's groveling apology, for "some similarities in phrasing and structure."
On Aug. 15, GOP political columnist Todd Domke wrote on a WBUR blog that Vice President Joe Biden should apologize for his "chains" remarks. Two days later, in an unsigned editorial, Vennochi wrote, well, basically the same thing.
The bow-tied bumkissers have refused to release the name of their latest scofflaw in the tradition of Mike Barnicle, Patricia X. Smith, Jayson Blair and a host of other Globe pipe artists and journalistic grifters.
But multiple sources have confirmed that the latest member of the Globe Hall of Shame is Vennochi, who is now known as Vennochio (rhymes with Pinnochio). Vennochio did not return several phone calls and an email over the weekend seeking comment on her suspension.
The Globe has a long tradition of either lifting other people's work or just plain making it up. Remember when they ran shots from a porn movie and accepted at face value the charges of a Boston city councilor now in prison that these were U.S. troops in Iraq raping Iraqi women. Readers could even see the genitalia of the porn actors on the Globe metro front. And then there was the Globe's complicity in the Dan Rather-CBS hoax, using fradulent Texas Air National Guard documents in a failed attempt to smear President George Bush in the 2004 presidential election.
In Tampa this morning, non-fiction reporters were chuckling at the precipitious decline of Globe plagiarism. At least Barnicle stole from the best in the business -- A.J. Liebling of The New Yorker, Jimmy Cannon of the Washington Post, Chicago columnist Mike Royko. Now Vennochio, best knonwn for her pedestrian, plodding prose parroting the Globe line du jour, is reduced to lifting material from GOP consultants.
If Mike Barnicle were dead, he'd be rolling over in his grave."
