The nation's most influential pediatricians group says the health benefits of circumcision in newborn boys outweigh any risks and insurance companies should pay for it.
In its latest policy statement on circumcision, a procedure that has been declining nationwide, the American Academy of Pediatrics moves closer to an endorsement but says the decision should be up to parents.
"It's not a verdict from on high," said policy co-author Dr. Andrew Freedman. "There's not a one-size-fits-all-answer." But from a medical standpoint, circumcision's benefits in reducing risk of disease outweigh its small risks, said Freedman, a pediatric urologist in Los Angeles.

Recent research bolstering evidence that circumcision reduces chances of infection with HIV and other sexually spread diseases, urinary tract infections and penis cancer influenced the academy to update their 13-year-old policy.
Their old stance said potential medical benefits were not sufficient to warrant recommending routinely circumcising newborn boys. The new one says, "The benefits of newborn male circumcision justify access to this procedure for those families who choose it."
There! I know it won't settle the controversy, but it should!
Doh!
LOL until next year when the reverse themselves again.
no skin off my...err...nose
Did you hear about the rabbi who did free circumcisions? He only took tips
On average, circumcision cuts down on infections and diseases. For that reason, it has been performed on many non-Jewish babies over the past century or so, if the parents wished. Now, of course, it’s becoming politically correct not to be circumcised.
There’s a joke in here somewhere, I just can’t quite think of it.
Teach little boys to keep their peepees clean, and not to be putting them where they don’t belong. Then, circumcised or not, there shouldn’t be any problems.
God's Old Testament rituals are about obedience, but are also about protection and provision. God provides for us in so many subtle ways.
Headline should read: “God is right, again!”
Amen.
And this prepper received the message loud and clear.
Then there was the man who went to the hospital and said...
“I want to be castrated”!
Doctor and Nurse says: “Are you sure that is what you want”!
Man: Yes, I want to be castrated.”
He wakes up in the recovery room very sore and sees another patient in there moaning in pain.
He says; “Hay man, what you in for?”
The other patient says “I just got circumcised”.
Man says...’DAMN! That’s what I wanted!”
Don’t believe these people. Very low credibility. The American Academy of Pediatrics is extremely left wing, are profoundly anti-gun rights, and otherwise support the leftist agenda in the US.
They are agenda driven, not science driven. Anything they say is suspect. I would go so far as to say that parents should not take their children to a pediatrician who is a member.
SRS questions... why didn't God just make us cut to begin with??
If he did it right from the begining we would not have to do circumcisions. If we are required to cut off part of our bodies after we are born isn't that saying God made a defective design?
Bottom line is still $$$$$$. $500M+ per year loss to the Medical profession. Why would they want to lose all that? (Rhet.)
SOmetimes when God suggests something perhaps we ought to pay attention
“If we are required to cut off part of our bodies after we are born isn’t that saying God made a defective design? “
You might say that about our need to shampoo our hair, clip our nails, wash up, or maintain our teeth.
I am “pro-choice” when it comes to this issue, I just don’t think your argument there has merit. It’s a sinful world, and our bodies are in constant need of tweaking. Sometimes major tweaking. What about genetic defects?
God’s design is perfect. But we corrupted it when we fell.
Sort of a “who cares if it reduces chance of spreading STD’s - if they were not slutty/promiscuous they wouldn't have that problem anyway!”
Might I also suggest that removing the prostate entirely also reduces the risk of prostate cancer. I think I will take my chances!
:)
Often a particular thing happens that changes a person’s views. I am circumsized. When in college, I had an intimate acquaintance who said her ex-bf wasn’t and she wouldn’t give mouth hugs to men who weren’t. That made up my mind.
