By Mr. Curmudgeon:
It's unusual for political documentaries to become box-office hits, but that seems to be the case for the film "2016: Obama's America." Dinesh D'Souza, who is also the film's narrator, wrote the book from which the Rocky Mountain Pictures' offering gets its name.
According to Deadline Hollywood, Friday's box-office rating put Sylvester Stallone's "Expendables 2" at number one, "The Bourne Legacy" in second place and "2016" in third. "That's stunning," said the entertainment website, "because it's playing in 1/3 less theaters across North America than the other wide-release actioners."
The film explores President Obama's early years; in particular, the people who influenced him and, more importantly, the absent father who's anti-colonial, socialist dreams the younger Obama embraced and, according to the film, seeks to fulfill.
Unlike the heavy-handed, left-leaning documentaries of director Michael Moore, D'Souza takes a measured approach to his subject, and begins his narrative journey by describing the similarities between himself and the president. D'Souza grew up in a Third World nation (India) where tradition dictates the direction of one's life - from career path down to the person you wed. And D'Souza grew up with a distain for imperial British rule to rival that of Barack Obama Sr.
Where D'Souza and the president's world-views diverge is the most interesting aspect of "2016": Obama adopted the malevolent and resentful anti-colonial leftism of his father - so prevalent in the Third World. D'Souza, on the other hand, embraced the anti-colonialism of America's Founding Fathers that cherishes individual liberty and its powerful residual force - free-market prosperity.
It is D'Souza's contention that to fulfill his father's anti-colonial dreams, Obama believes he must bring about America's economic decline by increasing our indebtedness to foreign lenders, increasing the nation's dependence on foreign energy suppliers, increasing the tax burden on the nation's citizens by adding a new dictatorial health-care entitlement program, and dramatically decreasing or eliminating our nation's nuclear deterrent.
I attended a screening of "2016" where I live in swing-state Florida. When the house lights flickered back to life, I asked fellow film-goer Bob (he asked that his last name be withheld) for his impressions of the film. Originally, from Boston, Bob described himself as a diehard Massachusetts' Democrat-turned-Republican and former Internal Revenue Service employee.
"If we don't change our economic thinking and get this guy [Obama] out of the White House, we won't have a country," he said.
"There's a man in the White House that hates America," continued Bob, "The American dream is becoming the American nightmare and this guy is doing it on purpose."
Daughter in-law Janet was equally adamant, "It's a situation where there are a lot of people who are saying, 'Is it that we're in this mess because he [Obama] is so inept?' This movie answers the question: No, there is an agenda and this man is pursuing his world-view, which is anti-American, it is anti-Israel, it is anti-freedom."
"What we need to do," said Janet, "is get everyone out to see this thing ["2016"] and, if they've missed the news clips, if they've missed what's gone on the last four years, they need to understand there is a purpose behind it [Obama's policies], there is an agenda that has driven this man ... and it's an agenda that is driving us into the ground."
"I actually knew a lot of this," Bob's wife Doris chimes in, "but it [the movie] really brings it home, especially for people that had no clue and had voted for him."
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film's producers expanded "the anti-Obama documentary into 1,090 theaters this weekend (it will play in 49 out of 50 states ... and whether or not it continues to raise its venue average, it's set to make a huge splash at the box office - perhaps about $6 million, which would easily launch it into the Top 10. It could be much bigger than that, too ..."
The vetting of Obama has begun. "2016: Obama's America" gets two enthusiastic, popcorn-covered, Mr. Curmudgeon thumbs up.

I saw that movie today also. Being aware of this since 2008, it is still chilling to see it being proclaimed for all to see.. with no reservations about saying what is true. It’s scary to think we are this close to losing our country... and it was so easy for him to do. Congress and the media have not stopped him... he thinks he can finish his goals with 4 more years... and then there will be no more elections.
I just got back from seeing it. It was good, but I already knew pretty much everything covered.
One of my sisters saw the movie the other day, you know that sibling that is no better than marshmallow filling, anyway, she sent me a text and apologized.
She and her husband where blown away because they didn’t know anything about Obama.
I saw this movie with my wife this past Friday. Most of what was in the movie, I already knew, but not my wife. It opened her eyes and she has now strongly recommended it to several of our friends.
Two things happened when the movie was over; Everyone in the theater stood and clapped and probably 30 people yelled for everyone to go vote!
Gives me hope.

It was the same with the Senators in Rome. They were “decadent” and the ruler was able to do what the hell he wanted.....as long as they languished in the “spoils”. If they opposed the emperor....they were put to death.
No different. History just repeating itself.
It would wonderful if every congresscritter was sent a link to the showings at their local theater...maybe they’re unaware of it (as they’re so unaware of everything), and even if they’re NOT, they’ll know the American people ARE aware of their complicity in this bastard’s infiltration and their lack of gonads to do anything about it.
That tells me A LOT of people are really pi$$#d off.
it will play in 49 out of 50 states ................................. I guess the other 8 states will have to wait till after the election, by then it will be more flexible to view it?
I plan on seeing the movie this week. But from what I’ve read on this forum, it’ll be a lot of preaching to the choir. I’ve some cousins that need to see it.
Does the movie have Russian subtitles?
Just saw this afternoon. My wife always held to the “he is incompetent” theory. After the film she agreed that it appears Obama is purposely trying to bring the nation down a few notches.
The evidence is too powerful.
The men who mentored and trained him ALL hate America!
How in the hell did this anti-American Bozo get elected?
Saw it today. Thought it was really well done, although I’ve never been a fan of the shaky, hand-held camera. (Fortunately, this was mostly done for environmental shots.) Loved the scene with the “white college guy with the ponytail” at the Dartmouth “International Club.” “Hey, Nesh, love your name, man. I think India is so cool, so amazing and spiritual and all. I’ve never been; I can’t wait to go. It’s an amazing country!” “Really? What do you find amazing about it? The arranged marriages? The dowries? The caste system?”
The same way you get people to buy soap--hype.
We may be looking at a replay of Chile.
The Bush Administration made this possible. McCain backed off of any real attacks on the man, because the Establishment had decided to go with the first black president.”

I didn’t know that Dunham was a leftist as well as her father and I didn’t know that Dunham’s daddy picked a card-carrying known black communist as young Obama’s mentor.
What impressed me most about this movie is the strong role the American educational system has in generating anti-western, anti-American radicals. Most of the ones mentioned in the film were educated at American colleges.
If we defeat Obama in November, there will soon be a movie with all of the real truths that will shock this country. If we do not defeat him, the communists, with their puppet, Obama, will have a carte blanche ticket to whatever they want to do to this country.
