Why would you want to receive support from a group you consider your opposition?
Foremost, Akin has a number of strong backers within the GOP. He does not consider the GOP by and large to be his opposition. His beef is with a handful of GOPe "party bosses". I am on board with that. Second, why on Earth would you refuse your opponents resources? If they spend it helping you, they can't spend it helping themselves. As long as you don't strike a deal with the Devil to get it, by all means enjoy the free ride.

Akin got on very well with the GOP, right up until his self-inflicted wound.
