TAMPA -- Mitt Romney's presidential campaign gave Texas Rep. Ron Paul a chance to speak at the Republican National Convention, but he declined due to the conditions of the offer, the New York Times reports:
Mr. Paul, in an interview, said convention planners had offered him an opportunity to speak under two conditions: that he deliver remarks vetted by the Romney campaign, and that he give a full-fledged endorsement of Mr. Romney. He declined.
"It wouldn't be my speech," Mr. Paul said. "That would undo everything I've done in the last 30 years. I don't fully endorse him for president."

“I think Paul thinks Romney is full of crap like the rest of us here.”
You mean you and the other two Obamabots?
?????????
“Very dissapointing. Paul is putting himself over getting obama out of office.”
Ron Paul is retiring and wants to pass on the torch to his son Rand.
Rand Paul has already endorsed Romney and will speak at the convention.
I’ve heard this logic a lot around here, but I think it is tremendously simplistic and damaging to the conservative cause. First, if we continue to vote the lesser of two evils, the GOP-e will continue to put forward candidates as bad as, if not worse than Romney. Second, a GOP-e president will undermine or end conservative opposition to big government. Recall how Santorum justified voting for No child left behind: “I was supporting the team” (or similar words to the same effect).
How tragic for the Republic that it has come down to this.
I think many, many here feel this way! If you have children you must think of their future and boot Obama in 71 days!!!
Get over yourself, the alternative, whether you like it or not, means Obama completes his agenda of destroying America.
On the bright side, the circus is ALWAYS in town when Uncle L_Ron is around ...
“Romney has never said a bad word about Paul and has gone out of his way to accomodate paul personally behind the scenes and now this?
Very dissapointing. Paul is putting himself over getting obama out of office.”
Mittens systematically had Ron Paul delegates decertified from state to state, and before that was using every dirty trick possible to keep them from winning in the first place. For example, Romney’s people in two different states were spreading instructions to Ron Paul supporters with fake paperwork with the Paul logo to trick them into voting for Romney-supportive delegates.
And now Mittens wants Paul there to give approved remarks before the Soviet Comintern.
Anything Mittens has done “behind the scenes” on Paul’s behalf was done out of fear of Paul delegates, which are quite numerous since they tended to dominate the state conventions. Mitt Romney is definitely a narcissist. Just listen to Brett Baire describe Romney’s behavior after their “strange interview” on Fox. There are other videos of Mittens acting positively Obamaish, walking away, suddenly turning around, and with his Mormon smile suddenly dressing someone down. Romney is such a narcissist that he gets personally offended when you do not believe his lies. He is a pathetic little man.
...I think Paul thinks Romney is full of crap like the rest of us here.
It might be as simple as a shrewd businessman opening the
books, recognizing the problems, bringing them to attention,
developing a plan of action, and saying, "make it happen!"
I was talking to my crazy Uncle Ron:
Only time we see him at thanksgiving or Christmas and that’s enough...
Got a Rat in your pocket, or do you follow Hussein's belief that YOU are emperor and speak for us peasants?
YOU, IN NO WAY, SPEAK FOR ME!
“With the hand he is being dealt, he well could be. Some men achieve greatness. Others have it thrust upon them. If in four years, Romney brings unemployment under 5% and brings the deficit under $400 billion, he would have pulled off a Presidential miracle even greater than what Reagan did. Not to take a single thing away from Reagan, but the problems we currently face are well within Romney’s area of expertise.”
How’s Mittens going to do that when even Paul Ryan, his “conservative” VP doesn’t even have a legitimate plan to cut the deficit? Neither political party leadership actually has a real plan for the deficit. All they have are gimmicks and lies and false ideas that do nothing except cement the failures of RomneyCare/ObamaCare upon our already collapsing financial system.
Paul has never “fully” anything in his life.
He is a life long statist politician.
I don't know about "since Regan". I don't think Romney has the depth Reagan had. But I will say I am hoping he is reading the tea leaves on this. He CAN go down in history as one of the best President's and all he has to do is get the government out of our lives (sever cuts in "regulations") and off our backs (sever cuts in the government itself). Americans will take care of the rest and he can coast to a second term.
I am not a fan of Ron Paul. But have to give him props for standing up for his principles.

Mitt Romney made universal healthcare in MA happen, along with over 400 million in fees and “non-tax” increases, which put MA in the bottom 3 of business growth in the nation.
I just think he would do a lot better from within the GOP than having his fanatics sit it out.
“all he has to do is get the government out of our lives (sever cuts in “regulations”) and off our backs (sever cuts in the government itself)”
I think you meant to write “severe”.
What evidence do you have to indicate that he will do any of those things? What evidence do you have that he will not do the exact opposite, as he did when he was in MA??
The federal government will NEVER cut spending and regulations unless there is a catastrophic currency and debt crisis looming. Even then, the tendency will be to protect the big banks and stick it to everyone (and everything) else, just as they did in 2008.
I fully agree with you. And you know what - I admit voting for Romney is a leap of blind faith at this point.
The only thing making that choice even remotely palatable is the thought of 4 more years of obama.
It stinks - but Obama has to go.
