The bore holes at Hudson ranch are 7500 feet deep, the geysers are roughly at 4k.
However they want to go to a depth of 11k at some of the drill sites there in the Geysers.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit that the activity there could trigger exactly what we're seeing. In any event though, it was bound to happen eventually due to increasing tension along the fault lines in that area.
