I was reserving that for Washington DC...
We must be talking about two different entities.i am talking about pre positioned FEMA supplies. They come out of Atlanta and then there is another supply warehouse in Denton Texas.
Probably anything going to La. will come out of Texas.
Obama finally took the time about 52 minutes ago to direct FEMA and Feds to ‘watch Isaac closely’. (eye roll).
Just spoke to a friend in New Orleans who said that if it hits it will be Cat 1.
We are in SW WI and we had so much rain, we had floods. Power was out, trees uprooted because of saturated soil, basements full of water, foundations soaked. It was a mess. The rainstorms were just on a train from the GOM up the Mississippi for days.
Just checked our pumps, ran a check on the genny last week and we have gas stored. Still, I really hope we don’t a repeat of _that_.
We are.So all the supplies from FEMA are in Florida?Rut Row.
You can bet the levee will be the talk of the town. Wonder if they fixed the problem.
Does anybody know - are the Mississippi River and Lake Ponchartrain at lower levels this year, due to drought?
Ponchatrain is Sea Level...
One difference between Ike and Katrina is that the good Texans of Galveston got busy (like the folks in MS and AL after Katrina) and started rebuilding their city instead of whining incessantly and wanting someone else to do it for them.
I was just speaking with one of my customers about this. He was in to buy six pumps for his uncles down around Lafayette, La. He’s heading down now to drop them and some other supplies off and pick up his momma and bring her up to stay with him for a week or two.
New Orleans is one of the pillars of American civilization, the cradle of the American imagination, and one of the only beautiful cities in the entire country. Comments like yours make me ashamed to be in the same political grouping with someone who could propose turning our cultural legacy into a garbage dump.
May it happen first to the house you live in.
Friend is wrong.
Has Karl Rove been spotted anywhere in the vicinity?
Are you serious?
Indeed.
It deserves to be more than a below sea level pit.
It deserves to be a literal Shining City on a Hill.
I’m glad I live about 30 miles west of N.O.
p.s, where I live is also now under Hurricane warning....and I’m supposed to fly out of N.O. on Friday a.m. for a trip.
Assuming, of course, N.O. is still there...
You are correct. Camille was a true Cat 5 with 230 mph winds and a 30 ft tidal surge. I believe Katrina never rose above Cat 3, but was devastating because, unlike most hurricanes, which quickly move inland, it stalled as it made landfall forcing a continual tidal surge and continuous damaging winds.
How could Camille have been so strong without globull warming?
Just got this from Orlando’s WFTV:
Issued at: 5:40 PM EDT 8/26/12, expires at: 6:45 PM EDT 8/26/12
Tropical storm watch is cancelled.
Precautionary/preparedness actions.
Gusty winds will occur in squalls so leave lightweight objects indoors or well secured so they do not get picked up by the wind.
