Mike Huckabee rallied hundreds of Southern Baptists on a conference call Friday night in support of Todd Akin, offering advice about how they can help the embattled Missouri Senate candidate stay in the race while acknowledging Akin still may have to bow out.
This could be a Mt. Carmel moment, said the former Arkansas governor, referring to the holy battle between Elijah and the prophets of Baal in the book of Kings. You know, you bring your gods. Well bring ours. Well see whose God answers the prayers and brings fire from heaven. Thats kind of where Im praying: that there will be fire from heaven, and well see it clearly, and everyone else will to.

Yes he does. Look it up.
This forum is filled with pro-life conservatives. Can you name one who would take the positions you just suggested?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2878512/posts?page=9#9
If not, then your argument is a classic straw man argument.
There are pro-lifers, some who post here who do believe that the Pill is the very same thing as an abortion in that it not only prevents ovulation but in some cases it prevents a fertilized egg from implanting and is ergo an abortion, an abortifacient.
BTW if you are advocating for abortion on this forum then you are on the wrong forum. This is a pro-life forum and I don't think you will find a single Freeper who would take the positions that you suggested.
Talk about a straw man argument. Tell me just where I have in this tread or in any of my posts here have I ever advocated for abortion?
“And the self-righteous older Southern rural-state
preacher is the precise counterpart to the self-righteous
younger Urban secularist, which is why this non-debate
debate never stood a chance of illuminating the issue.”
Also brilliantly stated. They’re just opposite sides of the same coin.
Name that person, ping them here and see if that was their position.
Even if there are Freepers who take that position, that does not mean that "contraceptives" are ever going to be outlawed unless the specific contraceptive can cause birth defects or other health risks to women and their children.
You are encouraging the fear tactics of the left. You are busy posting DU Talking points.
But that seems to be your modus operandi here.
Now name those Freepers.
Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.
-1 Kings 19:18-
True enough, which is why conservatives in Indiana voted for Mourdock. Don’t get me wrong on this...I don’t prefer a RINO to a conservative. I simply prefer conservative candidates who can articulate their positions without making philosophically and ethically ridiculous statements. I’d be singing the same song to Indiana that I’m singing to Missouri if Mourdock were to make an equally off-the-wall statement.
If they understand or believe that what a woman is taking is an abortifacient and that it kills a conceived child, then naturally, if they believe the pill does that, then they would be in favor of banning it if they were truly pro-life. If they are misinformed, then you can educate them rather than calling them names and insulting them here.
Tell me just where I have in this tread or in any of my posts here have I ever advocated for abortion?
Do you believe that abortion in the cases of rape, incest or significant birth defects should be legal?
Do you think that abortifacient drugs should be legal?
If so then you are advocating abortion.
There are a lot of freepers who think that abortion should be rare and that they would never think of aborting their own child but they think that women should be allowed to make that decision legally. Are you one of those kinds of "pro-lifers"? I call that the Nancy Pelosi pro-life position.
It's not for me but it's ok for thee.
You nailed it. Akin is exactly the type of career politician that we are needing to do away with. Seriously, Akin is now at retirement age. His sole vision at this point is to join the most exclusive club in Washington the US Senate.
The link you provided brought me to a poster who was not advocating making all contraceptives illegal, he merely stated the Catholic position that contraception is “in the same spirit” as abortion. Did you see him make a pitch for making it illegal to practice contraception? Is that the way you read people’s posts here?
Nice try, but if that is your best shot, you missed by a mile. The Catholic position is that using artificial methods of contraception is a sin.
You want to outlaw that position?
When pro-lifers take an extreme position on the use of all or any forms of birth control or say that women who have ectopic pregnancies shouldnt be saved even as their pregnancy cant continue, wont result in a live birth and will almost certainly kill the mother, they turn a lot of people off. When pro-lifers oppose a woman who has been violently raped from receiving emergency contraception or tell them they should just suck it up, Praise God for their rape, smile and be happy and raise their baby on their own, they turn a lot of people off.Who do you know that has said women should carry "to term" an ectopic pregnancy? When you start saying stuff like that, you become "extreme" and turn people off. As far as rape, it may seem cruel for a woman to carry a child to term, but how cruel is it to allow her to pay someone to slaughter the child within her womb? You don't feel there would be repercussions in that regard? Read up more on pro-life/abortion/rape and the horrendous regret that women experience when they allow their own children to be killed. They go on to mess up America, as they become a substantial drain on society (their friends, relationships suffer) in one way or another (financial, or even criminal).. And "legitimate rape" was actually the correct terminology. It was the left that turned it around. Please read this post: Making a mountain out of a Missouri molehill.
Exactly. Instead of simply coming out and saying that he supports the sanctity of life no matter what, he instead bungles the question by diverting to something that does not relay that 'choose life' message. And this is supposed to be his core issue? If he can't handle this common question that has been well-rehearsed in the minds of every pro-life supporter, then what can he handle?
Bottom line: Akin is unelectable. We can either replace him and regain the ten-point advantage we had before with the generic Republican. Or we can stay the course with Akin while we reflect on how to beat Sen. McCaskill in 2018.
Okay let's get down to brass tacks Which candidate do you support for Senator in Missouri?
When you make an argument, please try to get your facts straight. The Left does not want him out, they want him in. McCaskill spent over 1 million dollars to help him win the nomination. The Left, including the press, are fighting to keep him on the ballot. McCaskill loves what is going on.
It's Conservatives who want him gone, except for a few who can't figure out what is really going on here.
In this argument, you and McCaskill are in complete agreement. Congratulations.
In his comment, Akin didn't defend those babies conceived from rapes. On the contrary, he denied their existence.
Please explain how you are going to get that done with the Independents and Republican soccer moms. Proclaiming Akin's conservative bono fides is not going to help and every time he opens his mouth, Claire and her 12 million bucks will be there to remind everyone of his unfortunate remarks and his clumsy and inarticulate defense of them.
Some days you just have to face facts. The only ones in the political world saying otherwise are people trying to advance their own agenda, like Huckabee.
What part of a 20-point drop in the polls do you not get?
If other Independents are weak minded enough to vote for Ma then we would have lost their votes anyway.
Again, Akin may be an anchor, but he's our anchor.
And conservatives in many states $upported Murdock. Myself included. And now it is time for those conservatives in other states to $upport Akin.
Sorry. No WE can't! Only Akin and Akin alone can petition the court to remove his name from the ballot. He has only one month left to do so. The court renders a decision. This decision is reviewed by SOS Robin Carnahan. A Democrat. She can accept it or contest it.
Akin ain't goin'. He stated just that yesterday. He's PCA. To continue discussing rape, abortion, Akin's affect, etc. is foolish. He's the candidate. Period.
No fan of Akin here. I voted for and $upported Steelman. Have for years now. But she ain't running, AKIN is!
YEP —
This is about nothing but a power grab and muscle flexing by Huckabee for 2016.
With the success of the Chick-Fil-A rally, Huckabee is feeling his oats and is trying to make himself a bigger player in the GOP. If Akin wins Huckabee is suddenly perceived as a Kingmaker.
