Girl’s violent death stuns P.G. neighbors
The Washington Times ^ | August 23, 2012 | Andrea Noble

A 17-year-old Prince George’s County honor student who aspired to attend Harvard University was killed in her bedroom after a gunman burst into her house, police said Thursday — a crime considered unthinkable to residents who remembered the girl for her ambition and intellect.

The shooting occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday inside a split-level home on a quiet street of single-family houses in the Kettering neighborhood. Detectives are investigating a report that the gunman came through the front door, made his way into the house in the 100 block of Chartsey Street and shot Amber Deanna Stanley.

Other family members were inside during the ordeal, but police said they fled at some point. Officials on Thursday had no suspect description and did not speculate about a motive.

Amber was a senior at Charles H. Flowers High School, where officials described her as well-liked and scholarly and said she planned to become a doctor.

“She had the grades, SAT scores and the attitude to attend any college in this country and succeed,” Flowers High School Principal Gorman Brown said.

Amber was among 500 students enrolled in an advanced science and technology magnet program. Her death took an especially hard toll on the 100 or so seniors in the program with whom she attended classes for the past three years, Mr. Brown said. Grief counselors were on hand Thursday, just the fourth day of the school year, to talk with students and staff.

Prince George’s County is one of the three major Democrat strongholds that make Maryland a deep-blue state. In large measure it’s a real snake pit. I don’t mind when their scum of the earth kill each other off, but hate it when they try to weed out the very best.

I pray for peace for this young girl’s family and justice for her killer.

Actually I’m going to be traveling thru MD. Staying in PA is only an attempt to shore up sagging funds until the payments start kicking in regularly from my contract down in Germantown. Yeah, the 80 minute commute both ways will stink but it’s probably worth it, until I have the dough to get an apartment. Then I’ll probably bow to practicality and it will be in Germantown. I was thinking of compromising on Fredneck (I mean Frederick) but that’s not all that more economical than Monkey County, surprisingly.

Warm day? All the days have been warm for the last month it seems. How close are you to Hagerstown?

Neither are nowhere, now.

All built up with tourist traps and strip malls galore.

On the bright side, *everything* is named after some Confederate or other.

Couple weeks ago I rode the whole length of the Mosby highway.

I love VA...except for the liberals infesting the northern part.

Try Damascus.

Loads of conservative yard signs, every election.

Beautiful place, still fairly rural.

There’s also Myersville and Middletown, west of Fredneck.

There’s also Thurmont and Emittsburg on RT 15, which are God’s country, northwest of Fred.

*Lots* of good outlying land near Fred.

[I’m closer to Hagerstown than I really care to be]

;D

It’s not been warm in the mountains.

When it’s 85 in Hagerbush, it’s 70 here and eventually, I ~have~ to come home.

I grew up in Oxon Hill in the 60s and 70s. The area has deteriorated significantly since then.

That’s not a random shooting.

Nope, sure isn't.

AC&T?

The only good days are Thursday and Friday.
Mid-80s, 10% chance of rain.

Either, overlooked by the Super 8 that I’m staying in now (I think they are affiliated with the AC&T one though).

As for trying to sell my album at any of the main truck stops (I told Ronnie that the rednecks in northern Maryland would love him) the story’s been the same... central buying sends them all their stuff, they don’t do indie deals.

It’s certainly rained a lot in the “hills” or at least fogged in them.

I’ll probably be in PA by then but if somehow I could meet ya at the Pilot (the Pilot’s smaller than the huge Exxon) either early in the morning or far better in the early evening once I’m off work, it would be a blast.

I went to Oxon Hill Sr. high for 10th grade, then they built Friendly Sr. High and finished up there just before bussing turned it into DC South. You know Allentown Road, close to Andrews AFB, Indian Head highway? Almost went to Surratsville high but took Air Force JROTC at Oxon Hill.

I knew things had changed when I went back to visit `Friendly’ a few years ago and the first thing I noticed was a large new building right next to the school.
“What’s that?” I ask the principal.
“That’s the nursery,” he replies

I heard they went to a dress code recently because of fights over gang colors. Rose Valley, Forest Knolls. Like I said on another PG county thread, I won’t go back unless I’m—how do the bloods put it ... “strapped”? My brother (lives in Ashburn, VA) and he wouldn’t get out of the car. A police car pulled up while we were there and hauled off some angry kid. No country for old men, huh?

It rained buckets and the ground is still soggy.

Early evening is better.

I don’t mornings.

[hell, I’m barely human until 2pm]

If we get out, I’ll shoot you a note.

Truck stops are over-priced chrome-pushing tourist traps, really.

I’m not surprised.

Right here, I think. Gotta be. It's a short street. ( No Street View. )

You are seriously commuting from Hagerstown to Germantown every day? Lotsa gasoline involved in that effort. At four bucks a gallon, are you really saving?

And wait ‘til winter. If someone sights two snowflakes somewhere north of Pittsburgh, Maryland drivers panic, skid, and cause a traffic jam in anticipation of a possible snowfall.

Mount Airy. It’s right at the border between Maryland and America.

The van gets about 25 mpg on good days. 20 on not so good ones. Usually in between. Comparing a $30 private motel in Greencastle PA with a $60 one in Hagerstown or a $90 one in Frederick... it will make sense even in the face of the gas usage, until I have enough dough to get something longer term. I already laugh at the soft jams between Hagerstown and Germantown. If someone pulled over with car or truck trouble, everyone has to slow to a crawl to look at it. But they aren’t the stock still, half hour long parking sessions that are typical of Chicago at rush hour.
