I don't think there's any answer to that question that doesn't involve Akin which won't lead to a McCaskill re-election.

Remember Chick fil A.

People are fed up with Political Correctness. This blunder will pass. People want strong leaders not weak kneed surrender monkeys.

Clarification — what I was trying to say in post #216 is that I don't think there is any solution to this mess with the Missouri Senate race that won't lead to McCaskill’s re-election unless it involves Akin in some way.

Let me say right up front that I have no inside information whatsoever on Akin’s thought process. I know the man by reputation, I've heard him speak a number of times, I've talked to him several times, but I don't know if he'd even recognize my name. If he does, he probably doesn't know anything about me other than that I've covered several of his campaign events. At the very most, he may realize I'm a conservative, which doesn't necessarily mean very much anymore. We've never even one time discussed social conservative issues.

However, it doesn't take much to realize that even if Akin was totally supportive of a replacement deal — let's say his poll numbers collapse and two weeks from now he knows he will lose so he agrees that he will drop out on condition that he gets to select his replacement — it will be very difficult for any replacement candidate at this point.

Even worse, while Akin and only Akin can pull his name off the ballot, there are ways to force people out. If Akin is somehow forced out and he's upset about the way it's done, his replacement will be severely handicapped.

It's way too early to know what will happen this November, but I think it's obvious to everybody that McCaskill’s chances of re-election have greatly improved no matter what Akin does next.
